Tabletop Warhammer?

love the new dreadknight model. took ages to build. will take about a week to paint properly. so very detailed!

plastics have really come a long way...

Aye, whilst a lot of the GW players seem to complain about the LOTR stuff, from memory it allowed them to invest a lot in the new equipment for the plastics.

I hate the metal models with a passion, sure they look nice, but pretty much every metal bit I've come across causes me more problems than the plastics :(
I swore off buying any more metals unless I had to after my Daemons of Chaos army where some of the models had me spending all day (almost) trying to get misshaped joints to fit neatly..(I think the 5 flesh hounds in the box took me the better part of 3 evenings to get the heads on).

I've got to get our scenery done this summer, we've got a load in the garage that needs assembling and painting but we keep putting it off.

Metal file + Araldite is your best friend when it comes to metal miniatures.

You could try pinning for extra support too I suppose.

I've got metal files (i think 3 sets of different sizes), apoxy, and about 4 manual pin vices ;)

It's just that every time I do a metal it seems to cause problems:p (I love flamers of tzeentch* for example but their arms are hold on by a pin head sized joint).

The hounds were an extreme example, as the heads had their joint squished quite a lot one way, whilst the receiving part on the body was squished at 90 degrees - it took hours of careful filing to get them to fit, then pinning and greenstuf to actually get them to stay on :)

I've actually got a cordless dremel clone now, along with welding gloves** and a handy dandy vice thing (intended for holding irregular shaped bits of wood), which make life a little easier.

*Especially as the last time I played them a friend had been going through all his opponents like butter with his seraphim + sisters armed with flamer, he got the first shot in with zero kills, then got about 30 wound rolls on 5 models when it was my turn:p

**Very handy when using a dremel to drill holes for pinning (metal gets hot when exposed to friction, who'da thunk it).

good news about the metal then, it seems pretty confirmed by everyone (barring GW) that they're switching from metal production to resin (or something like resin) in the next couple of months.

As much as I like the idea of collecting little minatures, I have almost no artistic talent. I hate things like painting and sculpting. Unless you can buy them in a ready to display condition, I'm out :(

I do a little commission painting now and again ;)

some companies do pre-painted miniatures but the biggest (that i know of) being rackham entertainment has gone in to liquidation because most people would rather paint than game and the rest are generally happy enough to play with unpainted figs (which is quite sad really).

Nice! But I'm really not interested enough to pay someone to paint the models for me.

Tis a shame really. I'm a big Terry Pratchett fan and I saw these really cool Discworld minatures: http://www.arcaneminiatures.co.uk/discworld-miniatures.asp

But same problem. Unpainted!!! I would buy the entire set to put on display if they came looking like they do on that website! Any I did myself would end up looking like garbage :(

Well you've got the whole shebang and still find problems. PEBKAC! :D:p

You got a link to the stuff they 'may' be using? :)

nowt much known on that front, the best guess at the moment has been resin but there are many different types of resin and many different mixes they could use.

hobby world is a buzz with news of metal being switched out, check belloflostsouls or warseer. quite a few reputable sources as well.

Thanks, are those the best for news? What one do you normally frequent?

I'm definitely wanting to get back into painting etc.

i use warseer more often to be honest, people like harry and a few others seem to have fingers in a few pies and are usually bang on in terms of what's happening, sometimes they don't get the timing quite right but then GW plans things often years in advance and seldom have a set release schedule.

i've been spending some time working on my gaming table today, really need to get rid of my second aquarium and have a reshuffle in my room though so i can have some breathing space around it!

just need to flock over the staples, it's a 6x4 with 2" deep rims meaning dice/figures wont fall off, but that also allows me to insert different 6x4s for 40k/BFG etc.

going in to town to get some more hills (never have enough hills!) tomorrow as well as that citadel terrain kit thing so i can paint all this grey plastic without wasting my tiny pot of scorched brown! hoping to get the battlefield in a box rivers and roads in a couple of weeks, should give me the start of a nice countryside table to play from, can't wait :D.

Cheers, that sounds like if it's true it could be a good move:) (as long as the QC is better than FW resin - younger brother seems to have to ring up at least twice per model).

Lejosh, I wish :p
One of the guys I play with (who has been into it constantly for about 15-20 years), also seems to have many of the same problems and he's got a huge collection many of which are looking great:p

Vincent, I like the look of that table :)
We've got a similar one in the garage (8x4 with a low boarder strip), but it's currently leaning against the wall with a dust sheet over it.

I'm just in the process of assembling/preparing 6 of my stealth suits for undercoating :)
I'm planning on having a major spray session in the garage soon, once everything is ready as I've got
9x Crisis suits
1x Broadside
20x gun drone
8x shield drones
and assorted small bits that are now at the "ready to spray" point :)

I'm debating getting the remora's ready for spraying as well.

that's a big list werewolf! (almost as long as mine :p)

doubtful yashiro, they've been recalling excess metal stock since i was working there a couple of years ago, we were told at the time it was to make room for higher volume lines but I suspected it was more than just that (we already had plenty of room for space marines :D), apparently they've been running down stock on the lower selling lines and recalling the non-selling lines to remelt and cast as higher selling lines for a little while now.

Terminators are now plastic? Maaaaaan. Things have changed. I remember freaking out when they made Dreads plastic. I currently have 2 metal dreads and 2 plastic dreads. I find plastic better to paint on and of course build with.

Lol get the Nostalgic feeling reading over this. I used to collect the LoTR stuff years ago, like literally when the Two Towers lines had just been released (must have been about 12 or 13). I was actually surprisingly good at the painting side of it, and won a few online competitions. If I can dig out some pics, I'll post them up. Sold most of my stuff a while back, though I still have a lot of BGiME magazines and the binders left (2 I think).

We used to play small skirmishes, as whenever we did a large 500 point battle we would get distracted between turns and eventually give it up. :D
