Tabletop Warhammer?

The original game we had planned would have been a much better match, tonight was still fun though :) got to try out IG and know which units to take next time. Sir David Heny Whittleworth (remember his name shami) of course will feature in all my IG armies but next time I will be rolling with a lot more tanks! less guards and more vets.

I kind of wish I had kept the ogryns in my team though, at 3 wounds a piece they may have drawn the BA forces away from the smaller groups and given the Tau and chance to get into a good position. That being said Daves Tau forces showed some almighty fire power! just a shame the Emperor was on Dan's side.

Back from an epic Warhammer World trip yesterday where big games were played and much food was eaten.

Had our local club day today and time with the Mrs means not been able to post.

Picked up my Tau Crisis Suits and so glad I have gone with the Forgeworld option. Only 3 assembled and dodgy phone pics below as WIP. Still have 3 more suits and a Commander to build but will be doing them this week. Got a game on Sunday so setting myself a target of having them all at least tabletop ready with primer and base colours. All weapons are magnetised to make swapping out loads easier. Have 6 of each weapon and will sculpt/convert some extras if needed.

Those suits are really nice :) (I've got a single FW suit at the moment, but about 12-15 normal ones, plus farsight and shadowsun).
I like the FW suits more than the normal ones in many ways (although I found the one I did a pain to assemble), but couldn't justify the cost, especially as I already had a load of normal ones.

Did you have a good look round the showcase thingy upstairs at Warhammer World?
They've got some cracking models there, which give loads of idea for painting :)

My aim for the month is to get my Stormvermin, Clanrats and Plague monks assembled and onto bases (40 of each), so I can hopefully get them all undercoated soon.
The monks and clanrats are currently sat in really useful boxes in parts (cleaned up but not put together other than bodies/legs).
I've managed to put about half the vermin on bases this evening, but they are proving to be a pain to line up, largely because of their tails.

ORgyns are beasts and if not win combat they will tie people down for the long haul. Lessons learned though :)

My original list did feature some orgryns but after discussion with shami I swapped them out, now wishing I had not as they would have been more useful than the psykers.

Ogyrns would have been more useful in that one, but even then they would have only been able to tie up 1 of the 6 assault squads. And if I'd charged them with my Sanguinary guard the power weapons would have made short work of them probably.

Really you both need to keep more things in reserve when I deep strike everything. It means I have less deployed troops when I land and you can move on and shoot in the turn your reserves come in (as well as coming on in an area of the board I'm not covering.)

And you needed more Plasma Guns.

I didn't realise I could deep strike my crisis suits and commander :o

We probably needed to make more use of space to spread you out. Laughed at your scared tanks though :p

Broadside (and crisis) with target array can leave you with 6 attacks a turn (re rolling misses) at 2 to hit, 2 to wound and no save. Nice against marines! :p

Deepstriking suits is not always ideal as a bad reserve roll and you are missing a lot of firepower.

By attacks per turn I assume you mean close combat as Broadsides only fire their railguns once but do get the reroll to hit. The targetting array also only boosts them to BS4 meaning 3+ to hit without a markerlight to support. If you take a targeting array, you cannot take the multi-tracker forcing you to choose which weapon to fire :(

I tend not to use broadsides for anti-marine use unless I want to pop a character. Anything T5 or lower is instant death so can remove a hard target fairly easy.

For anti-marine work try the FireKnife Crisis Suit combo of Missile Pod, Plasma Rifle and Multi-Tracker. Can move 12", fire both weapons with good range and then move 2D6" in assault phase to get into cover of our of range of return fire. Have a couple of shield drones on a hard-wired drone controller to absorb incoming fire with their 3+/4++ saves and you have a squad that is hard to catch and fairly difficult to kill.

Cheers JH. Might get some as they will tart up Ultramarines nicely.

Yeah. I find popping a few ForgeWorld bits here and there can really add something else to an army as they're not as common (admittedly, that is at least in part because of their cost). I'm thinking of using one of the new Apothecary models they sell with my Marines as I think they look quite good, but at £20 for two models (of which I'd probably only ever use one), I'm not entirely sure I really feel it's worth it.

Yeah he had one squad of them, they did almost completely kill an assault marine squad, combination of baal pred and the sergeant and Sanguinary priest assaulting them finally killed them off!

I will be picking your brain soon good sir :D

Came across a homebrew game type on reddit a few days ago

http://iten-game.org/

Small scale games, apparently similar to necromunda/inquisitor. Need to have a look into it a bit further but could be possible to replicate on vassal if anyone is interested.

I was also thinking about doing a mini league. Say you make an army list (1k or 1.5k probably) that must be used for every battle (so rather than specializing for a specific enemy we have to design it to be adaptable) Would people be interested?

Ok had a read, seems well done. I wish it had an experience system between games similar to Inquisitor/Gorkamorka/Necromunda though. I wonder if there is a Vassal module for any of those? Also I think we might struggle with a 2d view when determining line of sight (those type of games tend to involve multiple vertical levels as well which makes things tricky)
