Tabletop Warhammer?

They are ACE....

THAT GAME WAS SO ***** CLOSE.... GOD I HATE NID WARRIORS :(

Good game Newt :( Good game :(

All I needed was 1 more round to have won... After my luck last time when I needed 1 more round to win I deserved to lose this one....

Well in the closest game yet the Tyanids win 1-0 in a Take and Hold game against the Chaos Space Marines left.

The Tyranids ended the game with 1 Warrior alive....holding the objective.

Speechless.

Unreal game :p:D:p

Sorry for disapearing at the end there, mumble crashed (that and I done a screaming lap of honour round the house to celebrate victory :p)

To be honest I'm somewhat embarassed with my terms of victory but beggars can't be choosers. Good game mate, a victory thanks to my Neo impersonating Warrior :p

Friday's battle report:

Shamikebab's Necrons vs Clartymarty's Dark Eldar – 1500pts

The mission was Seize Ground with a Dawn of War deployment. The three objectives were the chapel in the centre, the Watchtower on the hill and the Bunker near the right flank. Clarty won the role and decided to go second. I chose to let my force come on in the first turn from the table edge. Clarty deployed one Wych squad in a Raider behind the central hill and Urien deployed near the Watchtower objective.

Clarty rolled a 4 for his combat drugs, giving the his Wyches and Reavers the ability to re-roll failed to wound rolls in close combat.

Deployment:

Turn 1:

The Necrons split into two wings, on the left one Ghost Ark with two Annihilation Barges, the Wraiths and one unit of Scarabs moved up behind the forest. On the right the other Scarab unit, a Ghost Ark and Anrakyr on his Barge took cover behind the hill. In the centre the final Annihilation Barge moved behind the Chapel ready to support where needed.

Clarty responded to the Necrons by splitting his force in two as well, the Grotesques moved on the left towards the Watchtower, supported by a Warrior squad and one squad of Reavers. On the right the second Reaver squad advanced towards the bunker with a second Warrior Squad, the Wyches in a Raider, a Ravager and the Talos.

Turn 2:

The Wraiths advanced through the forest unhindered by the thick undergrowth. The Scarab units both advanced at full pace.

The Reavers, eager to spill blood advanced towards the Necron line. The Grotesques joined Urien on the objective. The Ravager advanced down the right trying to find a target, one of the gunners obliterating a scarab. The Warriors on the right advanced towards the bunker, taking a second objective for the Dark Eldar. The Mandrakes moved on the left flank and the Incubi were delayed (Clarty successfully rolled but they scattered onto terrain! Thankfully for Clarty they were only delayed and not destroyed!)

Turn 3:

The Necrons advanced in unison, the wraiths and scarabs advanced down the left and the Annihilation Barges moved over the hill and full speed. The Scarabs moved at full speed down the right flank, charged the Ravager and destroyed it! The Wraiths charged the Reavers and killed four, the lone survivor fleeing for his life. The final Annihilation Barge moved out from behind the Chapel and destroyed the other Reaver squad. The Ghost Ark and Warriors on board killed the newly arrived Mandrakes (ta da! bleaurgh, most useless unit ever)

The Warriors on the left advanced onto the objective and opened fire on the wraiths, wounding one. The Wyches on the left dismounted from their Raider, the Raider opened fire on the Annihilation Barge but failed to hit. The Wyches on the right dismounted and charged the Scarabs, killing all but one. The Raider then shot at Anrakyr but failed to penetrate. The Incubi came on behind the Necron right flank.

Turn 4:

The Ghost Ark opened fire on the Incubi's Venom but amazingly out of 28 Gauss shots (glance on a 6) and 1 Cryptek shot (Strength 8) the Venom emerged unscathed! The left Ghost Ark advanced down the left flank towards the Watchtower. Anrakyr moved towards the Wych's Raider and threw his Tachyon Arrow at the raider but it failed to hit! The Annihilation Barges split their fire between the Wyches and their Raider. One killed 3 Wyches and the other blew the Raider up, taking another 4 Wyches out in the explosion. The Wraiths charged the Warriors and killed 7, the remainder running but being caught and destroyed.

The Raider shot at Anrakyr but failed to hit the fast moving vehicle. The Wyches advanced towards the Chapel. The Grotesques stood their ground and prepared to receive the Wraith charge.

Turn 5:

The Wraiths charged the Grotesques killing two and losing one in return. Urien and the remaining grotesque failed their morale check and were caught and destroyed! The Annihilation Barges finished off the remaining Wyches. The final Annihilation barge shot at the Incubi's Venom destroying the light skimmer, 2 Incubi dying in the explosion. The final 2 Incubi were then destroyed by the Barge's other gun. Anrakyr swept over the Raider but somehow failed to damage the vehicle. The Ghost Arks both flew at full speed towards the objectives (Chapel and Watchtower) and the Warriors disembarked and ran. (I'd realised the game could end this turn and I was 1-0 down!)

The Raider and the Dark Lance in the warrior squad shot at Anrakyr and destroyed the main cannon. The Talos then charged him but failed to damage it (Anrakyr moved flat out so he hit on a 6) The Wyches continued moving towards the chapel.

Turn 6:

The Barges, Scarabs and Wraiths all moved towards the final objective while the Warriors held the Watchtower. Anrakyr swept over the Raider and again failed to wound the skimmer! He then hacked the Raider and fired the Dark Lance at the Talos, but failed to hit (see it isn't just Dark Eldar that can't hit with a Dark Lance...)

6aNecronTurn6_zpscab6eeb7.png

The invincible Raider shot at Anrakyr again, and again failed to damage it. The Wyches ran towards the chapel across an alarmingly open field of fire...

Turn 7:

The combined power of the Ghost Ark and the Annihilation Barge opened fire on the Wyches leaving just 2 alive, the determined warriors kept to their course though. The other two Annihilation Barges opened fire on the Warriors defending the Bunker. The Wraiths charged the remaining few and wiped the squad out.

The Wyches moved, ran (somehow Clarty rolled a 6) then assaulted the Warriors defending the Chapel. They failed to kill any (it was a long run!) but didn't lose any in return, contesting the objective.

At this point the game ended with the Necrons holding the Watchtower, the Chapel being contested by the Warriors and Wyches and the Bunker having no Necron troops to hold it.

Final Score:

Shamikebab - 1
Clartymarty - 0

Things I learnt last night...

1) Broodlords and Genestealers are gay (Or should I say Rending claws are gay)
2) Swarmlords can and will die.....And can be wounded by Plague Marines in CC
3) Typhus is still a beast yet chokes at key points and wounds himself and running him in a squad is essential
4) Nid Warriors are one with the Matrix
5) I need to give Havocs more respect
6) I rule at rolling on Plasma guns :)

Things I would do differently.

I think on the whole I did everything right but was incredibly unlucky with a few of my rolls I think I might have switched the places of my 7 man Plague marine squads on the right hand side with the one holding my objective and ran the 2 5 man squads closer together with Typhus in the right hand squad. This would have enabled me to get 2 Melta shots off against the Swarmlord as well as all the other Shootyness that was going on up there and could have potentially led to me holding my own objective. But not sure if only 10 Plague Marines and Typhus could have held the right flank.

All in All an amazing game, Loved it even though I lost (but as already mentioned the loss was dubious lol) Would love a rematch against Newts at some point and he can rest assured I will blow his warriors to smithereens as soon as possible. Really looking forward to my next match now (Although something other than Capture and hold would be nice)

Once again Good game Newts :)

Anyone for a game this week? lol

I learned my whole army sucks :p

Tyrannofex is walking pile of ****, 1 havoc was his whole death toll, then to be one shot by Typhus was rather amusing! :p He is a vehicle killer and nothing else!

Swarmlord isn't as invincible as I first though and keeping up his Nid shields is a must, though watching him wade through squad after squad after squad is rather fun! Hormugants after the initial charge are garbage!

Stealers are deadly and a great investment! The warriors are useful but only to keep everything else ticking.

I've fought two well armoured and tough armies in the Marines and Necrons, looking forward to seeing how squishier Guard and Eldar fare, Cc against them could be messy :D

Was a good game mate, as I said I am rather embarrassed at how I stole a win but I'm not complaining! Any rematch demands that Typhus grows a pair and faces The Lord!!!!!!

I'm not quite sure what you could have done differently in that game Newts as you had the screen on your Swarmlord but with the Havocs and rapid firing from the PMs they just got rinsed quickly. I guess you could have run the Genestealers and Swarm lord straight up the center with a screen of Gaunts covering it and use them to tar pit valuable units and charge with the stealers and swarmlord. Would have given you greater flexibility I think. Plus they would have all had a 4+ cover save as a minimum which as you found out is invaluable.

All I'll say is do not under estimate the Guard... Your Hormagaunts will get turned to mush rather quickly with the sheer amount of templates he will throw around :( Those Mortars were annoying.

Yeah, 2 Battle Cannon templates (no saves for Swarmlord...) coupled with 3 Mortars and 3 Heavy Bolters is a hell of a thing to run into! He has a lot of flamers as well.

Yes it will be a case of kill as many as possible before they reach you, because unlike the Plague Marines, they're going to rip you apart! Some good positioning and movement will be key.
