Tabletop Warhammer?

So, don't suppose anyone has got their hands on any Finecast stuff yet, have they? I've been wanting to add a set of Sternguard Veterans, but I'm hearing that things can be somewhat hit-and-miss with Finecast at the moment. Tempted to just fleabay some of the metal ones, but the potential for conversion with a softer, more workable material is something that really appeals to me. :(

Yeah I've got the Big Mek /w Shokk Attack gun finecast model.

Price increase from £18.50 to £23. I'm happy that it's not metal, as metal chips and is just inconvinient as I'm sure you know. But the finecast models have so much resin flash on them, it appears they're weaker than the regular plastic too :( Detail however is great, price increase is the main downside.

£23 for a mek with shokk attack gun!
That is ludicrous, even £18 is high.
I payed £15 for the Deceiver which is reasonable i thought.
The Ogre Kingdoms Tyrant is £23 but that is metal, I honestly think GW have gone too far with the latest price rises but i spose the Resin models do look mighty fine.
Ill just head to fleabay whenever i need something for my army i think.

Over the past week a friend has talked me into 40k again. So for the first time in over ten years we went to our local store [forgetting it was half-term] children everywhere! I now have a small Ork force, codex and Ghazghkull finecast model. Can't wait to get stuck in next week!

The fine cast models are nice but at £22.50 for Ghazghkull it's asking a lot. I'll probably use online retailers and Ebay for cheaper models and the Vallejo Paints from my local hobby store [exact colour match, bigger pots, and cheaper] to keep costs down. It's a shame as i did enjoy visiting my local shop but when you can save 20% online there's almost no need to go in.

Going over another mates house tonight and he's going to give me a crash course in painting. He's done some amazing stuff, that's one of his many Golden Daemon entries for this year!

Just checked out his other work on Cool mini or not, I like his painting style, very very clean and nice tones on his painting. Your lucky to have some one like him giving you time and tips on paining minitures. Good luck on doing your models justice.

So, after my Talos was posted on Tuesday, I am still waiting for it, a box of Kabalite's, basing kit and some bases. Getting annoyed with RM now, waiting for my mouse mat that was posted 2 days ago also.

But, my scourges arrived tuesday, and I have build them and posed them all interestingly. Just going out to undercoat them and my last 3 mandrakes.

I've built up a few of the models from my earlier post, andd i'd forgotten how small the things actually were. Going to be fun painting them as my hands absolutely dwarf them.

Just finished working out what my army will be...

1 HQ - Archon

1 - Elite - Mandrakes

4 - Troops - 2x 10man Wyche squads, both with Radiers
2x 10man Kabalist squads, 1 splinter cannon

2 - Fast Attack - 6 Reavers, 5 scourges

3 - Heavy Support - Ravager, Talos Pain Engine, Chronos Parasite Engine.

What do you guys think?

Heya I play DE a lot and i hope you dont mind me saying:

Poke out the mandrakes, they need a pain token to be mediocre

2 Units of 3 reavers is awesome, havent used scourges but id rather have a unit of true born with blasters in a venom for 12 poisoned shots and 4 str 8 ap 2!

for heavy support you cant go wrong with 2 ravagers or even 3, problem with pain engines is they foot slog a lot slower than your transports full of wyches!

drop 1 wyche and add the Archon to it as well, 4+ inv save in combat is too good to pass up!

My Archon has a 2+ invul save, 4+ armour save, blaster pistol, huskblade, djin blade, soul trap and webway portal.

Going with a heamoculi and a unit of Wracks (5)

More Kabalist than Wyches, as I want them fluff based.

I already own the Scourges, 1 unit of Kabal's, Mandrakes, Archon and some new stuff in the post (Talos, Heamonculi and Wracks).

Having looked and read the army book twice, whilst on the toilet might I add, I have come up with the following IDEA!

Archon (As above)

Heamonculi (To have Wracks as Troops)

Mandrakes (5)

Grotesques (3)

Possibly Trueborn with Blasters and Splinter cannons. Or Harlequins?

Troops would be bulked out with 3 or 4 Kabal units and 1 or 2 5 man Wrack units. Mainly all armed with Splinter cannons as upgrades and Raiders?

Fast Attack would be my Scourges and some Reavers. Like the look and stats of Hellions, but unsure if they would 'work' or 'fit in'.

Heavy would be 1 Talos and 2 Ravager if I can afford, points wise.

The talos would be held in reserve until I deploy the portal.

What would you change above? I am aiming for a nice 2K army with options of making it 1500 or what ever, without losing too much 'umph'.

The background is the Archon leads his Kabal on a raiding trip to a nearby planet. After striking, as he is making his escape, the Heamonculi contacts him with an offer, he is a member of the Prophets of Flesh and wants away from Urien Rakarth. So, the Heamonculi and my Archon ally, with a small force, they make for the Archon's home planet, not too far from Commoragh.

And that is my basic fluff.

I dont really want anything 'wyche' based, as it would brake my background.

so, what else do you suggest or would you change?
