Tabletop Warhammer?

Jaffa - vincent's snow method works really well. Can't tell so well from this photo, but this is done using that method:

IRL you can see a little glimmer in the snow likey you would real snow. It's very effective.

I'm not as good a painter as vincent is, but I know what he means about painting the U badges and the bone on the, er, bone bits:

I did a tutorial on the bone bit for a forum I used to go on here too:

Might not mean much without explanation however lol.

Just bought a zombie dragon kit today. Spent all week painting the monsters for warhammer quest too. will get some pics up later. They aren't great, just done to be used in a few games & look half decent

Awesome, get a few detailed shots of the dragon if you can. I had a look at the display model in my local GW and the painting was pretty poor.
I've almost finished my doomwheel too. I'll throw a few pics up once the basing is done. Then I'll have to put painting my skaven on hold, till I move house :<

decided to make the new terrorgheist with ghoulking out of the new kit. Just had a large number of the old metal ghouls donated to me, so think a ghoul king will fit in quite well.

have pics of the build, although they are a bit naff as its only my camera phone, will upload them later once they are on my pc. Will get some decent shots of the finished model once its painted, although thats going to be a few weeks most likely

Since I've been on the forum, I've always read this thread title as "tabletop warmer" and thought you wanted something to heat up your table. Only just realised what it actually says.

Actual face palm.
Please, continue.

To the guys who play Tomb Kings.

I have just finished reading the Army book cover to cover.

Cue the head scratching. I am trying to write up a 2K or 2.5K army list. Thing I want to ask is, are the 'named' Lords and Heroes worth the points cost? I was looking at getting Khatep, as he is Loremaster in Nehekharan magic, BUT is 330 points? If I did plump for him, would there be any point getting another Liche Priest at 110 points for level 2?

My list (Very rough) Has Khatep, Priest, Hirotitan, Casket of Souls. Very powerful magic, stay within 12" of casket + titan = + D3 power dice each turn + D3 casting score per spell... Also Khatep can re-roll all dice used for casting once per turn...

So, what I am trying to ask is...Is Grand Heirophant Khatep worth it, and would you include another Liche Priest? Answer for both the following please...

1) For standard games (2K and 2.5K points)

2) For Storms of Magic games (2K and 2.5K points)

Yes, you will need more magic casters. The augments are essential as none of the core units are particularly great. But chuck a couple of the augments on them & they will serve you well in combat.

I tend to take a tomb king on a warsphinx & then 3 lvl 2 liche priests @ 2500 points. Tomb kings are great in combat & I love the warsphinx model.

Casket of sould I found to be very disapointing. Sure the D3 dice are great, but its not worth the points cost imo.

Not sure about storm of magic games as I haven't played any, but as I understand it you'll want as many magic users as possible to capture the fulcrums

My theory was, if I go for Khatep, I get ALL the Nehekharan spells. So a level 2 can just be backup? I don't think a Tomb King to be entirely essential, the Prince has nearly the same stats, minus 1 S T W..i think, book is like other side of room...

I will play around with lists and games until I settle, just like my Empire. My Empire play and perform MUCH better WITHOUT the 8 knights I used to have, I use 10 outriders now.

Play a few games find what works for you, its what I did. The list I use now is nothing like the list I started with tbh. I would go for a lvl 2 as back up though. Will give you an extra chance to cast a couple of spells etc. I have a horde of bowmen that sits at the back with my heirophant in, then I let the rest move up with the battle line.

I pretty much had to wing it with tactics for my tomb kings. I've not long started playing again & no other memebrs of my gaming group play them. I found the tactic guide that was in white dwarf 3-4 months ago was a great starting point.

Not much help with the special characters as the only ones I've got are setra & khalida & I've not used either with the new army book

I was planning on getting 2 hordes of 39 Skeleton Warriors, one with Prince in, and 1 with The Herald Nekath in. Tomb Herald sat in a 14 man group of Tomb Guard. 6 Chariots, in 2 groups of 3 to flank. 2x20 groups of Archers to whittle down and harass. 3 Sepulchral Stalkers to appear from no-where and hopefully kill heavy hitters outright, Heirotitan and Casket for added magic OOoomph.

So, would that work, it is 2K points I think...maybe 2.5K...

I painted this back in 1998 when i was 14, bad pic, my camera makes it look too glossy.

This was painted a few years later when the model was first released.

I dont collect anymore, im just a 40k novel addict! :)

I'm jealous, at 14 you were a better painter than I at the wrong side of 30...

Thankyou :)

To be honest, back then i used to spend days and days painting. The fun of playing the game was secondary to me painting a good minature.

I'll see if i can get a few better pics of some more models i've dug out the attic!
