Tabletop Warhammer?

Its payday, so made the trip to GW to pick up this months supplies. Came away with the paint I needed, but also somehow managed to buy the warriors of chaaos book & a chaos lord on manticore lol.

Currently running a challenge with a friend to get the chaos lord built & painted by the start of tomorrows game (as I am now using my newly resurrected chaos army).

Just finished building it & waiting for the last bits of glue to dry before I undercoat it. Have lots of pictures, so will get a build log up later on, if people don't mind lots of pics. Or would I be better off starting a new thread for it?

Is chain mail ok to use on bolt guns with a dark wash?

Yep, thats what I use for armor/bolt guns etc.

The main armor is chain mail with badab black over the top, no highlight or anything yet. Its just a tester model for my chaos warriors

A few questions about GW and the taster sessions

I Was away this week in Edinburgh and took a trip into GamesWorkshop with my Son (9 Yrs Old). He is really took by it and it's something he wants to try and get into. So were off to GW Altrincham today for one of the taster sessions. Will he need to buy all of the models and paint etc to see what it's like. I think he will enjoy it but it seems a pretty expensive the starter kits if he may not like it.

What should we expect from today ???

Loki - there's really 2 parts to it. The hobby part and the game playing part. You can buy a few paints and one kit at a time if he just wants to do the hobby side. If he wants to actually play games with a normal sized army, then you're looking at hobby costs + models. Probably around 350-400 quid for an army iirc.

Stumbled upon the gamesworkshop website the other day and I've ended up buying a Blood Angels Furioso. I always loved the look of the dreadnought but 11 years ago when I last played I couldn't afford one.

I paint a figure every now and again but haven't seriously thought about getting properly back into again, although I'll still only be painting, was never really interested in playing even though I had both 40k and WFB box sets.

Going back to my roots and planning on painting Blood Angels - love the look of the sanguinary guard looks amazing!

That's true, but it can be spread over a very long time :)

IIRC you can do a combat patrol (400 points) with Marines very cheaply (I think the boxed set has all the models for it?), then add to it as time goes on.

I got back from GD about an hour ago and I'm more or less dead on my feet, apparently I looked like something from the Ministry of Funny Walks going back to the train :)
I'll try and post a few pic tomorrow, as I've got 700+ of various quality but i'm barely able to think let alone type at the moment.

Just got back to my mates in Leeds, kinda knackered now. Was a good day but quite disappointing compared to last year since there was a severe lack of new things on show. A couple of mates ran to the queue to get into BlackLibrary/Forgeworld and it took them 2 hours to get through that queue then they had to queue or everything else. When it comes to selling stuff the organisation seemed very poor.

As for the models, they had some lush gear on show but most of it isnt new stuff. The Tau models they had on show have been available for ages but since they had just been added to the new apocolypse armour book they were all in the cabinets. The Golden Demon models etc were interesting, some of them were stunning to see and it showed off a lot of skill on a lot of people behalf. I wish id got some pictures but I killed my phone using its sat nav to get to Birmingham.

All in all a good day and Im glad i done it, but it felt very lacking compared to last year.

IIRC the Necron centipede is now 205 points (10 higher than the experimental rules), in the new IA Apocalypse rules, someone was complaining about that :)

As stellios says they had some lush gear on show, but very little new and from memory from what was said in the Seminar they intend to try and keep stuff quiet until a few weeks before launch (one of the reasons given for why White Dwarf has been getting sent out to subscribers later than it used to be).

re the selling stuff, we stopped by to look at the sales area several times and put it off due to the massive queues until about 10 to 3 when it was pretty much gone, so we were able to just walk in and get what we wanted from the FW stand.
From what one of the guys said when my brother commented that this was the first time in 5 years he'd been able to make it to the stall on the day, it sounds like their hands are tied to a degree by what the venue allows in regards to the layout.

I've got a bunch of pics to post on another forum later, so I'll copy some of them into here :) (I've already put a few in the random thread).

What I didn't see was the golden demon models, as it seemed to be very crowded around them and I was too tired to try and get near those cases, I regret that a bit, but I suspect there will be plenty of pictures of them on other sites.

I had an amazing day at Games Day. Got 'Warrior Priest' signed by Darius Hinks, he signed it 'Stop! Hammer Time!'. Had a nice chat with him about how his books really invoke the power of imagination and read more like a film than a book.

Then met the legend that is Phil Kelly, had a good chat about Dark Eldar and my view on them, with a background of my own force, he really like it, and he signed my Codex (Am I sad??). Got a load of Warhammer Scenery from the make and take area.

Had a game of Dread-fleet, plays well, we had some hearty 'YEARGH!!' over in that area. Shame the food was stupidly over priced, £6.60 for 6" meal deal at sub way!!

Free water was a nice touch, specially the chap who had 'The Emperor Protects' on his boxes.

Grabbed a good amount of Forge World gear, Lufgt Huron, Contemptor Relic Dread, Assault Cannon, Boarding Marine and ordered the Close Combat weapon.

Had my Dark Eldar Mandrake photographed for 'Whats New Today' on the official Website.

Going back next year and entering Golden Daemon.

i just dug up a old box of war hammers that was given to me like 10 years ago, they have been in cupboard for ages since i cannot paint them to save my life lol.I was going to bin them but the box is really heavy because there nearly all metal models,i wonder if there worth selling? i have no idea what they are so took some pics to see if anyone has any idea

I used to play 40K when I was about 8, I collected Orks, then Blood Angels, then I sold the lot bar a few tanks which I just used to modify, you'd be amazed how cool a Chimeria tank looks with some Dreadnaught parts glued to it.

Everyone knows that Chaos Space Marines or Eldar were the best

The two boxy ones are dreadnaughts, it actually looks like you've got a bit of everything in there, as I'm not an expert (especially on older stuff), but it looks like there are marines, eldar, dwarfs, the dog thing is a flesh hound*, some nerglings, pink horrors and elves.

Jay, only if they are Slaaneshi marines, otherwise it's all about the Dork Eldar with their Wytches and their whips and their pain things :p

*Known to me as a "WTH how am I meant to get THAT to go to THAT, they're nowhere near the same shape, beast" (5 of them took me as long to assemble as my Xv15 FW suit and about 11 standard suits, even allowing for the fact I magnetised the Crisis suits (the flesh hounds too hours of cutting, filing and drilling to fit their oval head joints onto the round/oval the other way necks).
