I used to have a tyranid army, it consisted of:
2 hive tyrants
1 carnifex
1 lictor
20 odd genestealers
6-8 termagents

I also had random ones that i liked the look of like abaddon (chaos) and some space marine stuff like a predator tank.

I played WH40K quite abit around my mates house, his dad built a big shed just for playing. He used to have a big white scar space marine army and my mate had a big chaos army. Then there was me with my tyranids, fun time.

My first game was Space Hulk, and i also had Gorkamorka.

Played on-and-off over the last 20 years. Mainly Imperial - Blood Angles and Raptor Marines (Blood Angels were entirely jump packed at one point), Armoured Fist & Cadian Guard, a bit of Tau.
Much preferred the supporting games - Battlefleet Gothic, Space Hulk, Necromunda (and it's predecessor Confronation).

Just finished Dawn of War II: Retribution but all they way through I was thinking "That's not a valid army..."

I used to play 40k ~10 years ago when I was at school, had a crappyly painted Ork army. Necromunda has often struck me as tempting, less expensive presumably.

I used to collect from 1997-2000ish. I collected Blood Angels and Orks :)

I stopped collecting mainly because with A-levels and work i found myself with no time.

I won a painting contest held at Warhammer World in Notts when i was about 14, i was an Ork Nob Squad led by Ghazkull. Ill see if i can dig them our the case in the loft and post a couple of piccys later :)

I prices seem to be stupid these days (i still keep in touch with all the new releases). When i started, a space marine tactical squad (10 marines) was £10. Theyre a lot more these days!

The models seem to be getting more detailed and dramatic lately. The new blood angels stuff looks beautiful.

I started playing 40K when i split with my last gf about 8 months ago, i have an ultramarine army, pprob about 3000 points worth now, all professionaly painted by someone who does it as a job (so very nice). VERY exspensive doing it that way though :(

Doubt i will find a gf while doing this hobby though :D

Ohhh make sme want to getback into now.
I've got anm Ultramarine Army and a Tyrinad Swarm, usually play the latter as they are devestating once they get in close (!). That and started off on Necromunda as well.

Im currently reading warhammer 40k novels and i think there brilliant. Im reading the Horus Heresy series and its the best books ive ever read.

If you never read it or even not a fan of warhammer but a sci-fi fan just get the first book, and i dare you to say you didnt enjoy it.

Agreed. I'm particularly fond of the Gaunt's Ghosts series. Sharpe in space is pretty accurate, I'd say! :D

I wish I could have afforded these when I was a kid. The game didn't interest me in the slightest, but they looked awesome and I'd have loved to paint and collect them.

Between you and i sir, we'd have one competent 40k hobbyist. I'm so jealous of the painters on here! :S

I've read the horus heresy series upto the second dark angels one but the story spanning the series has been far too fragmented for my taste, the first 5 or so were fantastic though, I loved the development of the plot regarding the lunar wolves.

Now guant's ghosts is something else, I read only in death (I think) when I was working for gw and a shipment had a few damaged books inside, it wasn't until black library started doing eBooks that I really got in to the series though, currently nearing the end of honour guard and my goodness i've found all the books so very very hard to put down, Dan abnett is such a good author
