Tabletop Warhammer?

assemble then paint, it's just easier to clip the pieces off, prepare them, stick them together and then paint them rather than the reverse.

It has been a while, but if I may suggest not sticking them on their bases at the start, but glueing them temporarily on a bit of dowelling.
It makes painting the lower parts easier as the base doesn't get in the way.

That corpse cart looks fab :)

I'm currently slowly making my way through my vermin infestation (I'm lucky to get 15-30 minutes painting done a day), but I've got some Baldric type cunning plans :)
I'm looking to put a pair of 3x2mm neodyminium magnets in the base of each model so they don't fall over on movement trays (and make some metal lined trays).

I'm also getting into the final planning stages for a pair of paint shakers, one for GW paints with a traditional shaker, and one for vallejo pains that will be a set of rollers - just waiting on some more parts and time:p
I may also end up using a welder as I bough a load of sheet metal for the movement trays, so might as well make the mixers out of metal rather than wood/plastic:p

any gluing you do later has a chance to damage the paint job even if you're very careful.

+++Transmission intercepted, advanced encryption override initiated+++

Servitor 13 has just intercepted this video link. At present we have no firm details as to what it is about, but it appears to be related to Warhammer 40,000. Since intercepting this transmission, communication with the Studio has fallen suspiciously silent. Servo-skulls have been sent in to investigate - we will let you know of any future developments.

New edition? New race perhaps?

Do you have any links to said rumours?

seriously...

Will have a look at the KR cases, do people go with the metal or the cardboard ones?

Kimbie

I've got two black aluminium standard sized cases and they really are worth the money, one holds my flames of war 7th armoured division which I am extremely proud of, these models are mostly metal which means they're prone to chipping/rubbing/flexing and the paint coming off but I don't think I've sustained any damage (unlike when they were in a GW case!!).

Re the KR cases.

I have a single alu, a double alu, and about 5 card ones, I've also got several lots of foam either in other boxes or loose :)
Basically I use the aluminium cases to transport models, and the card ones to store, although I'm tempted by the big trolley case, as when my brother and I go somewhere together we can end up with two double cases, a single, and normal bags as well:p

I used to be well into warhammer when I was a kid (and 40k) but my budget would only stretch to buying the books and pretending to play in my head.

I loved blood bowl though! My fearsome team of Skaven - The Reservior Rats - went an entire season unbeaten :)

Now I'm grown up (well physically) and have a proper job with disposable income me and a friend have been getting back into 40k. I've always had a soft spot for the Tyranids and was hoping one of you guys here was knowledgable on them so I could ask some question?

Thanks for the feedback regarding the KR Cases, been looking at the double alu one with the Lizardmen specific foam

Kimbie

I used to play back when it first came out. Every Sunday down the YMCA since then grown up and moved away from everyone I used to play with. Still enjoy painting them now.

Well decided I should get back to painting my Lizardmen and realised I have more to paint than I thought lol.

But some questions I guess.

1. Do people go with a white or black undercoat? My army is purple so been using the black, but thinking would white undercoat give a more brighter look to the purple?

2. What are the new textured paints like? Not had a chance to pop into a store to try them yet?

3. Do people still use the GW cases to move their models about or is there a cheaper or better alternative out there?

4. Do people undercoat / paint on the spru or build the model then undercoat and paint?

I have bought Dreadfleet, opened the box and gone that looks pretty but not even though about putting it together yet.

Kimbie

1 - I go with black one some things and white on models I want to be really bright, like my Howling Banshees. Black has the added effect of creating shading right of the bat, and white is harder to work for dark models.

2 - The new textured paints are a good alternative to using bucket loads of sand, although I would only use them for rank and file troop, not special units or HQ's or Lord's. Use them on models you speed paint, slap the texture gunk on the base, leave to dry and drybrush 2 shades lighter.

3 - I use KR Multicase, got one for my Eldar and a normal figure version for my Empire. Very affordable and much better than the GW variety as mine are aluminium.

4 - Depends. If it is a big vehicle or complex beast, spray and paint as much as possible on the sprues and part build. I did this with my Wave Serpent and it helps a lot, I part built it and left a fair bit off just to paint. If your on about regular troops, build on the base and paint. I like to put sand and a small stone or slate on the base before I spray and then do the painting of that at the end.

Hope I helped.

Shame I never got the job for GW, would have made a good manager. :(
