Tabletop Warhammer?

Guys I’ve just listened to the audible book of ‘know no fear’ in the Horus heresy series.

What’s the next set of books to listen to? Bloody brilliantly they are.

Can't really help with 40k, all of my reading is WHF. There are a lot of books in the Horus Heresy to consume. I hear Dan Abnett is one of the most liked 40k writers.

Looks like I'll need to make a Khorne album on my Imgur to get these photos uploaded - what a pain!

In other news, I've drawn up a list of my extra stuff that I am very unlikely to ever paint (loads of Stormcast and a unit of Space Marine Scouts with Sniper rifles) and I'm gonna flog the lot. Fingers crossed I can get enough money to fund my Bloodthirster and a few other little bits (like Wrath and Rapture).

Getting rid of stuff you may never paint?
Heathen!

/looks at boxes of Skaven, Empire, various 40k main games. Dreadfleet etc...hmmm:p

I'm going to try and get back to painting/assembly tonight after a couple of weeks break, I've been assembling some of the "new" crisis suits which are far nicer and so many more options than the old ones, but take a lot longer to assemble, as for example the main torso is now 9 (or is it 11?) parts whilst on the old suits it was about 3.
I've also just received some additional broadsides and a ghostkeel (partly in prep for "the 8"), although they're going to have to wait until I've finished assembling the crisis suits* and finished painting the Riptide.

*Which will take me to about 18 or 21 crisis suits...what can I say, I like the suits (I also have about 9 or 12 part painted stealth suits).

Most of it hasn't even been taken off the sprue!
"out of box" in my case:p

I think half the stuff is still sealed:)

I'm going to try and avoid buying as much next year as I realised I've spent a small fortune this year and so far only managed to paint maybe 5% of it, although the start of the year was a bit busy and I may have chosen some silly things to get back into painting with (a Lord of Skulls and Riptide are not exactly the best things to start painting again).

I'm going to get a few extra bits just to build up a Blades of Khorne force. Between that and the remains of my Ultramarines, and the 40k Conquest stuff, I am hoping next year sees much fewer purchases!

Well was looking for an IG battleforce to get me going but they're all gone :(

Sorry, Astra militarum or whatever they are these days!

You were right the first time :)

If any of you guys have unwanted chaos space marines (40k), let me know I plan on doing those next after I finish my bugs.

Although the trick is not to buy too far past your paint queue.

So started with air brushing with my Stormcast.

Badger undercoat went on very well. Lovely flat surface and excellent coverage.

Doing some base colours last night had me scratching my head a little.

I have GW ironbreaker air. Tried both thinned and straight but both give a noticeably blotchy effect. I had given the pot a good shake. What am I doing wrong?

Us there a quick way of masking previously painted areas? It was great to be able to sit for a couple of hours and just undercoat model afyer model so I don't really want to keep stopping and starting to prep models.

Cheers.

@9TurningMirrors it may be worth giving plasmahal a quick shout or even reading some of his posts. His standard of painting is excellent although he tends to do scale rather than wargaming.

I've been bloody useless this year with hobby stuff. I think I've painted 5 Hellblasters, 5 tactical marines, a Librarian and a Lascannon Predator. I've built quite a bit throughout the year but still pretty shambolic especially as I love the hobby and the minis so much.

Got to make a better effort next year, I have so much to paint, so many cool projects and models that there is no excuse. Just need to try and balance the free time I do have better between this and video games which is what I primarily spend my free time on at the moment (outside of family life).

I'll get some photos up when I can of what I've recently finished.

What did you use to thin it?

IIRC my brother and friend used some without issue, thinning with Vallejo thinners, but I've got a feeling they tend to put a ball bearing in the bottle they decant it to and thin it in, then give it a really thorough shake followed by a couple of thin coats.

From my experience with metallics it tends to be that they are tricky to do, and can very quickly clog the brushes/build up on the nozzle (which can result in small clumps breaking off).

For masking we tend to use tamiya masking tape, and some times clingfilm (then tape around the edges).

I like the Windsor & Newton "Cotman" range (rounded ones) - they are about £4 each, sizes 0,1,2 will do you for all of the detail. 00 may be... but that would be for extreme tiny stuff.

GW small drybrush is v good.

Then for basecoating, washes, lager stuff etc just use whatever.

What’s the next set of books to listen to? Bloody brilliantly they are.

They are the best series of books I've ever read. By a long way. ADB, Dan Abnett and McNeill are masters. I've got all the books.

I would strongly recommend (if you can locate a copy (they are out of print at moment)) Gaunts Ghosts and the Space Wolves omnibus about Ragnar Blackmane (the Space Wolves are real jack the lads).

Have a look on the order of the series but let me tell you that when you read Master of Mankind you will be

You have listened/read the books in order??? If not I strongly recommend you do!

Getting back into 40k after a 4 year break. Needing to restock on paints and brushes, any particular go to brushes you guys can recommend?

I've tried quite a few brushes. Paid up to £10 for a brush, but I always go back to el cheapo Humbrol Coloro from Hobby Craft. About £1.25 a brush. Best brushes ever! Rarely use anything under a size 2, size 4 being my go to.

I mainly use GW brushes and they have always served me well, although I'm looking to pick up a couple of Windsor and Newton brushes as they always get strong recommendations.

On a completely different note, played a 2k game against my friends Orks yesterday and got my ass thoroughly and completely whooped.

Thought i'd share what just dropped through the post! I've wanted one of these for almost 30 years and a deal came along that was too good to pass on. Behold :)
