I knew it was something I'd have to do as soon as I saw it was a thing. It's such a simple thing to do for what I think is a really noticeable aesthetic upgrade*

Worst case it won't be perfectly centred but that is very easy to disguise with paint work. Btw is that a melta pistol? I didn't know those existed

Tempted to get some unofficial minis for paint practice. The designs on some are so much better than the GW stuff too, and like half the price.
 
Well, mine and my mates lists have come together for our tournament. Starting at 500pts again and building on the list from that. Think we've got 2 marines, 2 eldar, tau and me with guard, marines or knights.
We need some ork friends :(
 
Finally dived in with painting. Decided to try palod hand scheme which I've made difficult as I primed green.
Watering down paint being drilled into me so much I think I did it too much. Even after two coats I realised I would probably need more and then I went the other way and probably did it too thick and I've lost some detail.

However, this is the first miniature I have ever painted so I am not beating myself up over it. It also happens to be the one I made really badly with the big gap but don't care for now. Probably going to need a third coat at least as I have missed loads of bits and still see some grey.

Edit: I have totally stripped them with an IPA bath. I shall get a better suited spray tomorrow at the club and also sit down with the resident paint expert to get some advice.

I couldn't make my mind up which dice I wanted so I got a few, I didn't really want faction specific dice but some of these look so nice I couldn't resist.

I've got a few finished now for my collection of 20 different space marines from different chapters for a display. I didn't realise when I started this one, but I tried out a Grey Knights Primaris marine, which I now know doesn't work in the official lore as Grey Knights can't be Primaris as they're all first born and they can't use hand held plasma weapons either, so I had to paint it as a bolter style gun instead and they're basically an imposter marine claiming to be a Grey Knight. Found it tough photographing metal paint as I think it looks a lot smoother and nicer in person with a believable metal effect to it. I'll likely use the same colours for my Grey Knight combat patrol set whenever I start that. I'm still laying on paint too thickly but this one does look a lot better in person, the camera is pretty brutal at picking up any heavily painted areas. Also the laser sword effect is very low effort but I know I can easily replicate that on all my other Grey Knights, maybe I'll try do better on them.

Noxia, even though you've now stripped them, I don't think your basecoat was bad, obviously I'm new as well but that pale green seems hard to get right, similar to yellows, also they are really detailed models for your first paint jobs. I also think basic marines are a lot easier to paint than Chaos marines for beginners.

@PC777 Just to highlight how good that is, I am actually still doubting whether it is you who painted that as it is such a massive improvement from that red one you did not long ago.

You are right about the amount of detail too, I understand the appeal of contrast paints already lol.
 
Thanks Noxia, that's very kind of you to say, I think the metal paint does a lot of the work, the base Grey Knights Steel Citadel paint is really nice in my opinion.
 
I spent 7 hours down the club today. Went through a demo game that really helped to solidify the rules, but I still have quite a long way to go because there is just so much to remember.
Got some good painting tips and assembled a few pox walkers whilst I was there.

I was not intending to buy anything except for a couple of paints I wanted to follow a particular scheme. Accidentally came back with the following.
Some colours I got purely because I thought oh that's nice and vibrant. I will use that somehow at some point somewhere

No need for the detail, the beauty of a drilled barrel draws the eye.

My cheap £14 gooseneck light came today which will be useful. Also the Tamiya glue finally came so no more gambling with the citadel one.
Have built Typhus and primed two models for the pallid scheme attempt two. Also got a wet pallet as I'm lazy and CBA make my own.
