Tabletop Warhammer?

IS there some bloody shortage of warhammer paints now as well?

Trying to get hold of Lahmian medium, space wolves grey and apothecary white, all 3 of which are out of stock and GW website.

My display case arrived yesterday and it's really good for my purposes, almost exactly what I'd had in mind, compact size but still big enough to display 20 Primaris Marines as per my plan, also just about fits the full Grey Knight Combat Patrol. It has 3 modular shelves making up 4 different levels, so you can use just 2 0r 1 shelves if required for bigger models, the plastic is hollow so I can use steel tape on the underside which my magnet marines will easily stick to through the plastic, already tested with other thin metal, but tape not arriving for a bit yet.

The case is one single piece of acrylic with good clarity, not one you have to assemble from pieces like some others I've seen, pretty clean out of the box with minor dust and tape blemishes as you can see in my images I took right after opening it. Been so long doing this project couldn't resist testing it out with my mostly finished ones, so took some rough mock up pics as seen below, at least a few marines aren't finished yet and it includes my rough very first attempt at one in the Imperial Fist, but it does show the overall concept at least. Definitely happy with how the case and display looks, just have to wait for the 3D print shoulders to be delivered to start the next 10 to be finished. I may buy another couple of these for another 20 chapters project and possibly for the Grey Knights too.

Have been absolutely loving playing with the color options on these. Nothing spectacular so far, just some base coating, bit of drybrushing, touch of layer paint and some contrast paints.

Feeling pretty chuffed with how the results are turning out to be honest given it was 10 to 15 years ago I last picked up a brush :D

These are just the spares for practice before starting the actual models.

Yup not impressed by this contrast paint, washed and drybrushed and much more depth, maybe it's just this particular colour.

Interesting, I tested all of mine and found they were all decent, if anything I had to make sure to keep moving the paint when testing but my army is supposed to look grimy and dirty so it doesn't really matter. I also shook it like a mofo before using.

Not really done anything this week, got a few more paints.. This is my furthest along model but still a long way to go:

The skull on knee was my first attempt at drybrushing with a brush that I guess wasn't that dry, not sure if I'll go over it or leave as I think it looks ok plus I like the scuffed white bit I accidently did below. Middle bit not coloured as I've been looking for ideas on how to make it look good. No highlighting done yet of course and a lot of bits still to do like the whole backpack. Think I finally figured out how to take better photos too because when I click the picture and zoom in on imgbb it retains the detail. As I said before, this model isn't built properly as I was trying to get as many weapon options in as possible, the left arm basically isn't attached in the right place but it is what it is.
Also will be removing the white bits on tenticles, didn't come out like I wanted.

Tried any of the resellers?

Yea completely forgot, as I said literally just come back after a 3 year or so break, remember I used to use Wayland Games, although even them one of the paints I need is out of stock there as well.

I'm visiting my folks in London this weekend and there is a Games Workshop store a bus ride away so might give that a visit today.

Have used them in the past but the delivery times and service I have gotten from element games has been great.

There are loads of them. I couldn't find one that had all 7 paints I wanted in stock but then chanced upon a small one called Ashdown Gaming who did, a tad more expensive but worth not paying two lots of postage.

I would have got them from the local club but didn't have the time to drive down there. Fuel may have negated my discount too

Element Games have great service but are slightly more expensive.
yup but I don't mind paying extra for that service. All my orders have been shipped out that day via royal mail. Even manged to correct a mistake I made in an order before they shipped it. Have used wayland before without issues just seem to be a little bit slower.

Did some test painting today, forgot how relaxing it is.

Managed to get the effect I am after for the base layers and basic highlights with contrast paint after some experiementing with different undercoats and painting methods, just not quite the correct color/tone.

Got one of those lab shaker things coming tomorrow as a couple of my contrasts have settled out and still didnt mix properly after a good 10 mins, so hopefully end up where I am aiming for color wise, if not, will be back for more lol.
Did you order a shaker or mixer? I found a vortex mixer* worked better for me than the shakers, as it gets the paint stirring (pop a stainless steel ball bearing in for better mixing).

*I ordered a sci-quip variable speed one for about £80, it paid for itself in weeks.

I really need to stop buying hobby supplies and do more painting. Anyways I treated myself to the scale 75 gold set to cheer myself up. Back to work after having a few weeks off!!!

The below brushes don’t count as the other half picked them up for me. 5 quid from The Range. Seem well nice for the price. Not sure how long the tips will stay like that.

I use the Windsor Newton cotman brushes always got on well with them. Not particularly expensive either.

I bought a GW artificer brush once thought it was crap and it was bloody expensive as well.

Games workshop dry brushes are good though.

I got about 5 packs of synthetics from Temu for like £6 (60 brushes), I have a W&N S7 0 & 1 for when I'm brave enough to use them.

I use Rosemary & Co series 33s, they’re about £6-8 each (have gone up a bit lately apparently) and I love them. I don’t baby them but do clean them well, I’ve been using this size 2 since January:

Absolute trooper I use this one for the majority of my painting except oils and washes over large areas. It gets used for metallics and contrasts and is holding up amazingly.

Edit: I clean it properly he says while posting a close up picture of evidence to the contrary! I usually clean it properly with brush soap, obviously didn’t bother the other day.

My go to detail brushes are the same as Noxia’s. W&N 7 but I got the miniature ones. Have the Artis opus sets unopened so doubt I need any higher end brushes anytime soon.

Was after some half decent burner brushes and the above set seem really nice and feel good in the hand.

Trying to find some nice colour shapers currently as I got a set off Amazon that fell apart in 2 days lol!!
