Tabletop Warhammer?

So, after giving up GW around 10 years ago (having only played quest since, a handful of times) I have finally succumb and am starting a Tomb King army. £90 of paints later and it's time to start buying some models.

Hi guys,

Sorry to go a little off topic but I wanted to get my brother some of the warhammer stuff for christmas, but Im not to into myself - I wanted to get some of the larger metal models but most of them nowadays seem to be plastic and some sort of resin, would I be right in thinking that the finecast models would be the way to go to get more quality models?

Finecast is what they're now using instead of metal for some of the models (still the same models but made out of resin instead of a tin mix).
You can get some very very nice plastic model kits now that look great and are bigger than the finecast.

Personally I'm a little wary of finecast as it seems the QC on them isn't great and my brother seems to be having to take a lot of his finecast buys back for replacement due to fairly big problems.

Do you know what armies your brother has, and roughly what he's got?

Looking at the GW site everything looks awesome. Haven't played in many years. Even the rulebooks look great. Tempted to buy. :)

I think some of the finecast are probably much better than others, and I suspect they are getting better, as most of the ones my brother got were early ones. I'm just as I say a little wary as he had so many problems, and it seemed to be quite common at one point (we were in the store looking at them and he was pointing out "that red stuff is a bit of the mold, that's meant to have a load of detail there, that hole isn't meant to be there...").

Thats what i thought with the finecast replacing older models, hes into his orcs and chaos from the older warhammer stuff - might get him some chaos finecast models from their website.

Thx for the help

The Finecast seems to be improving the more and more models they put out but there are still some pretty bad examples. If you are buying from a shop try to look at quality of the cast.

Well was at my Mums last night so decided to collect my warhammer stuff from the loft. Got it back home and my gf just rolled her eyes at me and walked out of the room, somehow I don't think she approves of this expensive phase I keep going through.

You know she is for keeps if she lets play with "little men". My wife is fine with them all over the kitchen table :)

I must be the worst 40k ebay hunter on the planet. I'm always looking for stuff but never find anything good, yet others are always finding good stuff.

I suck.

Not that I need to spend more money on 40k atm anyway :D

Good price for orks. I saw a tutorial online that said undercoating in white gets better results.

I think this depends on what colour you are going for over the top. IE if you are going for a darker coloured model then basecoat them black, basecoat white if you are going for light colours and grey basecoat if it will be inbetween!

Any recommendations on anywhere to buy the models and paint online? I'm not keen on using the games workshop site as they never do deals and would like to save a bit of cash if possible. I'm watching a few things on the bay but would like something thats guaranteed as well.

If you are UK based then I would recommend either Wayland Games or Tripple Helix Wargames (they are my favourite).

In addition to Wayland Games mentioned above it's also worth looking at Total Wargamer (my local store), Firestorm Games, Stafford Games, Gifts for Geeks, Buy 4 Less Online and OG Games.

Anyone else planning on picking up some of the new Hobbit releases from GW? Escape from Goblin Town arrived yesterday, but I'm not allowed to get my paws on it until Christmas :(

SnMstuff.co.uk is a good place for paints. Quick delivery too. If you're looking for GW stuff, totalwargamer is pretty good. Sometimes have 25% off from GW prices, making them nearly affordable :p
