Tabletop Warhammer?

They have to be model enthusiasts or they could not do there job, The ones I have spoken to are generally nice guys, also notice a difference between talking to them now and when I was 13/14 and seeing them talk to the young kids you see relief when an older collector comes in the store.

I also feel kinda sorry for them as well and would not be surprised if someone has caught them on a bad day, especially a saturday or sunday. For example, I went into my local shop the other sunday to get a few things and the guy was basically running a local creche, parents came in spoke to their kids then left again I felt genuinely sorry for the guy. It's (kinda) his job so with a smile on his face he just did it but there was some older guys (around 20) in playing a game of WFB that he was interested in and helping out with but couldnt because he had to be constantly telling the kids playing 40k to stop doing this that and other.

Which is exactly what happened here,i walked in and asked him what basing stuff they had and what he recommended. He gave me the options and let me decide. He even showed me finished versions and gave me advice on how to do thr one i picked. If he was pushing products on me i wouldnt have walked out with the cheaper stuff. I spent £25 in there including some cultists, 2 paints and a wash on top pf the basing materials. The flocking and sand packa from GW are £10 or £20 each and he didnt mention them once after giving me the original options.

He then proceeded to talk to me for a further 40 minutes about my army, his army, conversions and possible builds. He is definately an enthusiast and was very helpful

Where is your local as my mate still works for GW just not in my town :(

Thats what i mean! GW got rid of all them guys and replaced them with salesmen.

The manager that used to be at my local still work for GW, he moved closer to home as life was expensive here and the store he runs was doing very poor...

I remember going to the St. Albans GW back when it opened in about 1996. I was given the hard sell then.

Things haven't changed significantly.

The more I play other wargames, the more I appreciate the positive sides of GW being a business. When I order models from GW I know that I'll get them in 3 days. I currently have an order with Fantasy Flight games (so not a small company) that's been open over a month.

Re the basing paints, they're expensive, but a big time saver when you're talking about doing a horde army like Skaven, Goblins etc ;)

My younger bought some when he was doing his goblins (a single unit of which is currently at about 60 models, and he's got another couple the same sort of size from memory), and his comment on the basing paints was something along the lines of "it's saved hours of mucking around with PVA, sand, PVA*, then painting and highlighting".

Our local stores are both good, the staff don't push much but do suggest complimentary products or if you're admiring stuff they've made up in store are more than willing to say how they've done it, and how many kits they've used, or where a particular part came from.

*I've got a large builders supply type can of it in the garage, and several jars of PVA in various places for the models

St Albans appears to be my local Or Hemel but I lived in St Albans for a year so pop back there

I have found the guys in St Albans GW to be nothing but helpful and enjoyable to talk to

Spent 4 years living near St Albans (went to Herts), Every time I went to lussmans for a meal I would see the GW and always feel slightly annoyed I couldn't go in :P

So I've crumbled and bought some paints courtesy of triple helix :)

Gonna practice on something to get my standard back up then show you how its done :D Only joking of course, I hope it all comes soon!

And the first ones Based... Not bad really although I did fix a few things after seeing these

Read this thread for the first time this morning. I have spent the last couple hours digging my old models out the attic but unfortunately a lot are missing and the paints are solid. Plus all I used to collect was LOTR, which I now understand to be a bit lame. Think I will order a 40k paint set tomorrow :D

LOTR isn't lame at all if you can find folk who play it. Its a good solid rule set and some nice models......what more do you need

Look around at different paints. I just couldn't get on with the Citadel paints (although I do still own a few) and am finding the Vallejo paints to be miles ahead.

Yeah they renamed a lot of them in the last refresh. Some of those are classics damn it! Feels wrong not having a Chaos Black.

I believe they had to rename them due to them messing up some contract wording.

From what I remember reading when GW outsourced the manufacture of their paints they let the names of those paints go with them, however they decided to bring them back in house, but due to the first part of the contract they could not get the names back from the manufacturer.

Hence the new names for the paints
