Tabletop Warhammer?

They could also fit in a normal Rhino as you don't have to take a dedicated transport for models.

Question is do you want them too? I still think transports are a bit fragile with a lot of AT around in 6th and Flyers able to pop them fairly quickly.

well at the moment he hasnt got much AT range wise, but if they get in close combat I could get into trouble lol I will try and produce a battle report and let you guys know how it goes. We are both fairly new to the game so not going to overwhelm eachother with loads of different rules but we will keep it as best we can regarding rules.

Chaos space marines Vs Nids (swarm) place your bets haha when I get home I will put up what I will be using. But I hope he doesnt check the forum ha-ha

Well just popped into the local GW and the guy recommended if i was new to basing to try the Citadel Texture paints (Coloured paint with sand in already) rather than messing about with Sand and glue etc

Got 2 of them and some paint to drybrush and some grass tufts... 2 models now have the first layer of brown drying on it before a dry brush then will add the green and tufts then post a pic.

Also spoke to him about the Heldrakes and how I thought they seemed to be lacking a tail he didn't agree till I told him about the conversion I saw using the Dragon Zombie Tail and he instantly agree'd and said he wanted a second heldrake so was doing the conversion lol

I agree with squark, PVA glue is dirt cheap and you can get some good deals on basing materials of ebay, you may spend a little more but you will get much more for your money.

Surely a bit of sand and some PVA is a much cheaper basing option than textures paints

I also agree with this!

Big tub of PVA Glue from B&Q is about £5 and some Coarse Bird Sand from Wilkos is like £1.99 and will do about 4 bazillion armies...:p

Also, don't buy and use the GW Snow for snow, mix your own like I did: PVA Glue + White paint + GW Snow (or any other, just had a tub for free)+ a wee bit Bicab Soda stuff and paste the gloop onto the models, I then put a wee bit gloss varnish onto hard edges and the edge of rocks etc for melting snow...

This is why i dislike GW.

The employees are supposed to be model enthusiasts like us and still try to sell us stuff which is OTT

I use ballast from model zone. A mix of two different size aggregates of the same colour gives a good surface. Iron ore is the colour I use most and a quick dry brush of Terminatus stone highlights the peaks. A wash can also be used to bring up the troughs.

You dislike him for doing his job? It was my choice to buy it over the optipns mentioned on this thread that i was already aware of.

The old manger from my local store never hard sold, YOU bought the item, you told him what YOU wanted and you basically sold it yourself...

Which is exactly what happened here,i walked in and asked him what basing stuff they had and what he recommended. He gave me the options and let me decide. He even showed me finished versions and gave me advice on how to do thr one i picked. If he was pushing products on me i wouldnt have walked out with the cheaper stuff. I spent £25 in there including some cultists, 2 paints and a wash on top pf the basing materials. The flocking and sand packa from GW are £10 or £20 each and he didnt mention them once after giving me the original options.

He then proceeded to talk to me for a further 40 minutes about my army, his army, conversions and possible builds. He is definately an enthusiast and was very helpful

lol
They're there to sell stuff, that's the purpose of a shop.

Man, i feel sorry for you guys. Back in the day the guys in the shops were modellers first and GW employees second. They actually cared about what they were selling you.

Have you seen the state of the airbrush they have for sale? I heard them trying to sell it to a young lad....the thing is absolutely awful to use. I know an ex-manager who was told by HO to actively sell it even though he tried to tell them it is not adequate for the job.

I went in the local store here and although the lad was a nice guy he tried to tell me that GW paints were better than Vallejo ones and that the GW brushes were the only ones he uses.

Thats what i mean! GW got rid of all them guys and replaced them with salesmen.

Every GW shop I've been to has been staffed by enthusiasts, don't get me wrong, maybe you've just got a couple of bad employees at your one.

First and foremost GW is a company... If they employ people who will start sending there customers else where to buy materials and things how long do you think the GW shops will stay open for

And I have to echo what Squark has said. I have only ever come across 1 bad employee in a GW shop who was a complete a**hat
