Tabletop Warhammer?

It is! I've not done it since I was a lot younger to be honest, but I really enjoy the modelling and painting :)

Been about 12 years for me :p

Was never so much the painting but the gaming I loved. I can still vividly remember when they had the worldwide chaos v empire war in all the games workshops.

I turned up with my 2 squads of halberdiers, 1 squad of gunners and 2 cannon then somehow held a hill on the east flank all battle. Harpies destroyed, marauders and beastmen destroyed a bouncing canon ball that took out 18 chaos warriors and a sorcerer on the last bounce :D but my crowning moment was just when my last squad of halberdiers was about to break against some chaos cavalry I suicide flank charged the nights with my 6 canon handlers.... Rolled 6 6 sixes on hit and 5 sixes on wounds taking out 5 knights causing them to flee :D:D:D the chap I was playing against was far from impressed :D

I have a certificate somewhere for being player of the day. :p Empire won in the end as well :D

how do you find out where local games wold be held to play these sort of games?

Ok, i joined and posted on:

There are clubs everywhere and prob where you didnt even realise. The games people play are not just GW either. The popular ones are:

  • Flames of War by Battlefront
  • Role-Playing
  • Magic The Gathering (not miniatures)
  • American Civil War
  • War-machine

The Flames of War games is 15mm and the models can be bought from many different "makers" as you DO NOT have to use Battlefront models (its not like GW) So you can "mix and match" and at 15mm you cant tell any difference anyway

Makes it much cheaper. Get all you paints etc online from random areas.

Can anyone advise how much an original gorkamorka (unboxed, still in the plastic wrap) is worth, and a box of Digganob (opened) might be worth?

It's for my mother, moving house and she bought them back in 1997 or something hoping that they'd be worth something some day!

Cheers,
Tommy

Just had a look at wayland games and triple helix, great savings! thanks :D

No problem, every little helps and all that. Not sure about Wayland but THW may take a bit of time to deliver any orders now seeing as it is the christmas period so bare that in mind :)

Probably a few hundred quid for the Gorkamorka to the right person. If Digganob is complete probably a fair bit for that too. I would have thought £300 for the pair if complete would not be too far a stretch.

It was a fairly limited edition game that is quite popular in the retro scene. Difficult to get hold of copies with enough intact to use based on the way it was played and the amount of customisation that took place.

It is a game I really want to get again for our club but we just don't have the funds. Trying to get a good copy of Warhammer Quest is about the same.

I wont be ordering online until after christmas (Dark Vengance me thinks), going to grab a few practice models and paints in store this week though :D

I'm thinking a dwarf battalion in the new year could be the way forward, damn you all! :p

Is the basic paint set going to get me far or do I need more from day one to make a decent job of it?

I never really got into the Warhammer, I have always been a fan of the 40k.

What would you say are the best bits of Warhammer? I dunno if I would want to do both 40K and Warhamer

I am tempted to do a Warhammer army at some stage, always liked the look of the bretonnians or the empire.

I am gutted, It will be after christmas before I can start getting them :( but I wouldnt mind starting on some now!!

After christmas I will be getting the starter pack for the Chaos Space Marines but I wouldnt mind getting started on some warp talons to keep me busy till then but I cant :(

tempted to get some LOTR Figures, not to play just think they are neat :)
Skaven are cool, but they look like they would be annoying to paint :P

Same for me. Don't plan on playing the game but love LOTR so thought it would be nice to paint some stuff for display :)

Once you get into Warhammer its a much deeper game than 40K, a few of us play both and prefer Fantasy as it seems more fun
