Taiwan and China thread.

On the other hand regimes like that sometimes resort to war to deflect from trashing their economy - and even if their armed forces are in a woeful state often a messy situation.

True but are they in a position to actually take Taiwan? From what I've read they certainly aren't and the damage it would cause to the world markets could send their economy into a death spiral.

Right now no they are unlikely to be able to decisively take Taiwan if Taiwan defends - short of maybe saturation missile attacks leaving a wasteland... but they could just send stuff to the meat grinder for a long time wearing Taiwan down or take less direct military measures to wear Taiwan down.

I can't imagine the US or the West in general could allow that to happen. We are reliant on them for nearly all of the high end silicon. We really should be getting TSMC and Samsung to be building more fabs around the world. I know they are building a big one in the US but we should be covering our backs more if the worst were to happen.

Personally feel like the West/US is waiting to see the signs that China is staging to attack the way the West would understand it - which requires building several airbases within a specific region of China to support the required sortie rate (along with some other amphibious factors) - at which point the US would start worrying - but IMO that would likely be putting it off until too late. Putting stuff off due to the costs, etc. involved until their hands are forced.

Don’t **** with the US I guess. They’re still a huge powerhouse and continue to get stronger. China still needs the US more than the other way round.

As for Taiwan, China won’t do crap. It’s a path to economic ruin. Ukraine is an unfortunate reminder of that to any who would try similar.

I agree and i hope China wont invaide Taiwan but if it will we are going to be in deep ****.

What do Taiwanese people want anyway?

I know a Taiwanese guy and he "likes" China, does business with Chinese and has Chinese friends.

China will likely invade via the back door IMO.

I dunno how anyone can't see how much of a bad idea it is - though they may not have known the full extent of it when they were first recruited. Sadly some people will be lured by the money and find ways to reconcile it with themselves.

Especially considering China could probably churn out that many airbases within a couple of days.

If they rushed it possibly - they've built one of the several needed so far and that took awhile - but isn't necessarily any guide to how quickly they might do it if it came to it.

As far as I'm concerned that is treason and the fact that it's not explicitly illegal for these people to train adversaries is beyond a joke. The law should change ASAP and any further help should result in proscription.

If not illegal and they are unable to be charged, they should be publicly named and shamed instead.

The US has just about rekt the Chinese chip industry. Not only have they put bans on selling fabrication hardware, they banned software and now they've also said any American working in China in the industry will lose their citizenship in hours if they don't stop.

This has caused a massive amount of employee loss in the last 24 hours and combined with all the bans on access to machines and software the Chinese are really struggling

The US is trying it's best to ensure that China can't build advanced technologies that unless the American government approves it, or they invent it themselves and they've proven they can't invent it
