Take Away curries, why do we never learn?

Grease everywhere, rat poo and the food just kept outside and in watery bloody buckets. Place was a state not to mention 16 of them living in two rooms and loft spaces.

Reminds me of a friend at college who did a summer job tearing down shops - tried to get me interested. Some of the stories of what they found at gone out of business food places yuck...

Never felt ill after a curry, had some power ***** in the morning though but thats because it was a spicy Madras or Phaal. If I have booze with it, the mornings are worse. I have a pint of milk after eating one most occasions and that nulls any after burning effect in the morning. These 5 star ratings are a little silly sometimes. I know of a place near me that got a 1/5, always went there, never an issues. The reason it got 1/5 2/5 was 2 pieces of paper work were not signed when carrying out due diligence, they were filled in correctly but not signed by the person who did the check. A wet floor sign not on display when the floor was wet and a couple of electrical appliances not checked and tested recently. The only actual food related issue was some long life powder mix thats used for something (think gravy, sauce granules) was a week or so out of date. One of those things that is used rarely and to be honest is easy to miss when checking dates during the days trade.

So when you see crappy stars, its not always the fact Abdul is using cat poo as beef chunks or using food thats been on the floor. It could be a simple thing as the fly zapper on the wall isnt working properly.

Edited: the 1/5 to a 2/5.

Clearly it's not a proper Indian because Indian takeaways don't do beef meals.
If I went round to my other half's families house and asked them to knock me up a Vindaloo they'd laugh me out the door...therefore no Indian takeaways are proper Indian?

The only problems I get is I’m a greedy **** and just plain eat too much. Most takeaway portions seem to be about 1.5 portions worth and therein lies the issue, plus rice, bread etc. But if it’s actually painful the next day then that doesn’t sound good and I’d not be going back to that establishment!

A lot of the foreign food places are utter filth, everytime theres a local closure its called Bakara Market or some curry place.

Stopped eating it years ago when I found out about Halal slaughter, dont eat any meat now tho.

Is it just me or do most people eat food in the full knowledge that they'll be paying for it twice the next day?

I ordered a Beef Masala meal deal from the local Indian take away last night, the first time in over a year and i've been suffering ever since and sat here in pain. :(
I guess the "Reality" of that "Bites" you sooner or later.

;)

Don't eat too much

Portions at takeaways in this country are obscene....but you don't have to eat it all. A 'meal for one' deal from the local chinese is plenty for both of us.

This, or they've ordered from a place with a food safety rating of "we'd shut it down but the rats ate the last enforcement officer we sent".

I've only ever had stomach issues from one takeaway and that was a domino's at an early Iseries event when the local franchise would shovel them out the front door as fast as possible to feed the 1000 odd gamers, and to be honest it's possible I got it from toilets or one of the other attendees (by the end of day 2 you needed biohazard gear to go near most of the loos).

Always amazes me when I see out local newspaper list all the takeaways with either a 0 or 1 food safety rating and they are still allowed to trade and obviously they are doing good business.

Luckily our local Indian is top notch and is an award winning Indian with one of the chefs recently winning world's best young curry chef so we get lots of interesting and new takes on curries.

Always be a dine in customer before a takeaway one and only after checking food hygiene rating plus reviews.

If when you're a dine in customer you notice:

- the general upkeep of the place isn't sharp
- carpets not vaccumed well
- dirt on skirting boards
- poor cleanliness of toilets
- personal appearance of staff, clean uniform, warn with pride rather than sloppy.

If the front of house areas are suffering it should be a good indication to the establishment's attitude towards cleaning and I would not return.

I know this is GD but sheesh at this comment...

As above beer is often the culprit anyway. If you have 6 pints of Stella and a curry, probably the thing that gives you the ****s in the morning is the Stella! Beer is such an odd thing to have with curry, it's so filling on it's own drinking pint after pint. Add to that triple carbs and heavy meat and some spice then there's your answer...

Yep, there is of course the rumour that the balti was invented in Birmingham. I don't know if that is actually true or not. Indian restaurant is also a generalised term as many of them are owned by Bangladeshi or Pakistani people rather than just Indian origin people.

Nevertheless, the point about beef still stands. I live near to Birmingham and we're pretty much the Indian restaurant capital of the world here, and out of the probably near hundred of restaurants and takeaways in and around Birmingham i have been in, I have never seen one serve beef. I've also been in Indian restaurants in Wales, the South West, Manchester and London and no beef in sight from what I recall.

Also the fact the OP ordered a 'meal deal' shows what type of place this is.

Apart from having curry on my chips I've never gone in for the more advanced curry dishes. I mostly use Chinese takeaways as there are more of them in my town.

I bet these takeaway places are making a lot of money though. I have a friend whos family owns a chain of takeaways and when we used to eat kebabs in the mid 1990's they were £1. These days I think they are being sold for £3+, and thats in the north of England. Might be more expensive down south.
