Take Away curries, why do we never learn?

The last one i had was a veg vindaloo in Faringdon Oxfordshire where my daughter lives ,any effects were due to the heat ,I am often told i wont get the balance ,nuances of other currys but i think its that dopamine release ,i just like a massive hit .growing some chillies in the greenhouse but only 350k on the scoville scale i think max in uk is 2.3 million ?
 
Nevertheless, the point about beef still stands. I live near to Birmingham and we're pretty much the Indian restaurant capital of the world here, and out of the probably near hundred of restaurants and takeaways in and around Birmingham i have been in, I have never seen one serve beef. I've also been in Indian restaurants in Wales, the South West, Manchester and London and no beef in sight from what I recall.

It might not have beef on the menu but more often than not the lamb is in fact beef as its considerably cheaper. I watched a programme where they sampled the food from a lot of curry houses and analysed the meat to find most lamb dishes were actually beef

I saw that too. Once it’s covered in spice and sauce and cooked, it’s hard to tell the difference. I always stick with chicken tikka
 
Apart from having curry on my chips I've never gone in for the more advanced curry dishes. I mostly use Chinese takeaways as there are more of them in my town.

I bet these takeaway places are making a lot of money though. I have a friend whos family owns a chain of takeaways and when we used to eat kebabs in the mid 1990's they were £1. These days I think they are being sold for £3+, and thats in the north of England. Might be more expensive down south.

Haha £3, I wish. It is about £9 a kebab around here. Even 17yr ago a Kebab was £4-£5. To get a premium kebab it is anything from £11 to £18.

Yea, when inspected thinking at worst it might be beef, it turned out to be chicken :eek:.

Horrific. They were sharing 1 shower between about 16 people and there was a steady traffic of them going in and out. Dead rats and rat poop all in the roof spaces and walls. There were a few "storage" units outside that had food in them barely covered up.

The worrying thing is that they have moved up the town to another location and are opening up a Chinese up there.

Nope, never again will I have Chinese food. I understand that I might be tarnishing them with the same brush but this was just horrible.

When I first walked in there I was gagging and had to leave the building for a few minutes before going back in. They were also re serving left over prawn crackers.

How it got past the food standards agency is beyond me, probably a bit of cash in hand to turn a blind eye. Im sure it happens a lot.

I don't think I'll be having takeaway full stop now
 
whats your favourite kebab place? Mine is probably bexley charcoal grill. Paradise donner is ok but they are so slow at delivery.
Best Kebab Ye by far my favourite for delivery. For collection it’s Topkapi in Brampton Road

Paradise don’t use lamb in their doner, so that’s a big no for me.

You guys must go to some real dives. Lamb, even when spiced, has a certain texture and flavour to it. I've never suspected I've eaten beef instead of lamb in any Indian near me. But i get my takeaways from restaurants not deprived high street food counters.

If something on the menu says 'meat balti' instead of 'lamb balti', just shows what type of places youre in.

I suspect some of the places people here are talking about might also sell pizzas, Chinese and kebabs as well as Indian.
 
I would say i'm very rarely ill from a takeaway (i would say never but can't be certain). My main issue is as said above the portion sizes are huge. Fortunately the wife and i have similar tastes so sharing meals works out well.

I do seem to have stopped having as many these days though. Too often i finish and then regret the full feeling and think i'd have been happier saving money and just cooking myself. Admittedly this mainly applies to pizzas as we don't have a decent pizza place locally. Indian/Chinese we're pretty fortunate with.

I don't doubt what you're saying. Just don't think I've experienced it but never can be 100% I guess.

Anyway the op knowingly ordered beef, which was the point I was making as Ive never seen it actually advertised at an Indian.
 
not sure what the aversion to halal meat is, posts back - I thought most(all ?) of it was now stunned

clever corruption of the ops name,

we don't know how much his curry cost , was he robbed ... but £8 for a kebab , plus delivery, what kind of gastronomique experience would it be anyway -
govt needs to improve those cooking and nutrition classes in primary school.
