Teeth whitening - Recommended kits?

Must depend on how busy they are, how frequently they recommend appointments :D. Despite badly staining teeth my dentist is happy seeing me every 2 years for dental checks and yearly for hygienist.
I remember the dentist doing everything years ago. Today even my hygienist struggles to get rid of stains now - resorting to a kind of sand blasting technique last time, for which I had to pay even more :(.
Sounds bad but my oral hygiene is good. I've worn my gums down years ago using a brust too hard, and no doubt brushing with force using a technique badly advised by the dentists (different ones recommend different techniques), hence the more porous parts of the teeth now stain really easily :(. Use an electric brush these days.

My dentist insist on every 3 months hygienist and every 6 months for checkup.

They will send you a text reminder. Then if they don't hear back an email and then it escalates to incessant calls.

I've seen how they operate on reception. They must work on commission or something as they are literally going through their list of client's continuesly trying to book appointments.

Even after your appointment the first thing they ask you is when should we book you in again for!

My preferred would be once a year hygienist/checkup on the same day and obviously back for follow up appointment if any work needed.

Any more than that really neccesary?

They are a good dentists just a bit aggressive on the sales tactics.

Depends on the state of your teeth AFAIK. They can advise to leave it for up to two years, between dentist visits.

Quite. It completely depends upon your teeth and your gum health.
Many people who are susceptible to gum disease, and/or have complicating factors (diabetes/smoking) require three monthly appointments and even then some of them their teeth can't be saved.
2 years is pretty much the maximum, as generally every two years radiographs will be taken interdentally to assess the regions the dentists can't see physically, and also to monitor bone levels between and around teeth.

I've been thinking about this for a few years because I personally think my teeth are horrendous :9 They're not; only slightly discoloured but personally I hate them. I've used some of the charcoal toothpaste from Holland and Barratt but only used two tubes and it didn't seem to make any difference. I've just ordered some of the Crest strips from reading this thread; if these don't work then I'll look into the more expensive options like the dentist-led home whitening thing, thanks @jpod for your expertise :)

Side note, dental is covered with work every 6 months. My teeth are perfectly healthy and all that, just, i don't like the colour :(

Just got this. I'll let you know how it goes.

No.
Just so that you know, if anyone does perform his upon you, without being registered with the GDC, then they are breaking the law, you won't be covered by insurance, and you better damn hope the peroxide you buy has stabilisers etc in it so you don't cause yourself damage.

Gone for the Phillips zoom admittedly off eBay.. that's what my dentist uses however instead of 16% I've opted for 22%. Assuming it's a legitimate product which it should be then I'd hope all will be okay. I've also ordered some custom moulds to be made.
