TERA release date announced.

P.S I've never seen a guild able to 'lock down' an area. Inevitably there are bigger boys, who play the game more, and who are total no-lifers who come along and say no. So, I genuinely wish people trying to do that all the best! :)

Just enjoy it wilko dude, If they kill you go after them, put XP on hold for a bit and go mash their faces :p

PvPing with friends is immense fun even when you lose :)

This definitely cements choosing a PvE server for me.

I'm far too old and ratty for all this ganking business :D

Don’t! I play exclusively PvP servers because they are a lot more fun. It’s actually great when you get someone whacking you out of nowhere but 99% of the time this is someone you can fight and even if you die you then go on a crusade against that player. Really breaks up the tedious levelling.

What were discussing above is ganking, basically a very few players who reach max level and then run around the levelling areas one-shotting new players trying to level and then continuously doing it. As you can see, some try to shut down the whole zone. It’s annoying but its only happening because the game is still in beta and the developers eyes are elsewhere. Even currently it isn’t too much of an issue, I died three times in one night and really its just a case of pressing respawn and carrying on.

Ironically, its these gankers who are the reason we cant have nice things. They shut down open world pvp, chase away subs, force developers to implement anti-pk measures then cry about how open world pvp is dead. Yeah you ****ers, you killed it! Sorry, don’t want to get on my high horse.
Hopefully we can sort out an OcUK guild which can do PvP like its meant to be done, against players who have a chance of landing a hit on us would be good! You really don’t want to miss us ganging up on a ganker and corpse camping him till he quits!

I am tempted, I won't lie. Aion is the main reason I feel obliged to stick to a PvE server tbh. The ganking that went on in rift areas was nothing short of annoying and incessant at times. It quickly loses it's fun when you have large groups of people who play pretty much all day and night ganking people who blatantly pose little to no threat to them. Granted this encourages people to raise their game and I respect that as a part of Open-World PvP.

I played FFXI for over 4 years. Ballista was so much fun and separated those people who yearned for some PvP combat. I also 'loved' RvR scenarios in WAR, they were masses of fun and I'd often solely play scenarios as opposed to doing other content.

PvP is great fun I agree with you, but I'd prefer it to be on my terms and available when I want to do it (as per the examples above).

To be fair, if a bunch of us from here are playing and a guild is made, I would entertain the idea. The problem usually being you venture out of your comfort (aka:carebear) zone and people quickly stop playing or flock to other games, leaving you in the trench taking grenades on your lonesome (so to speak!) ;)

Some NA PvP changes
We've added more PvP rules with this update—it's now uncool to kill players 6+ levels lower than you. These players will now receive the red name of shame and their punishment will be left up to the community.
You will now earn Infamy Points for killing lower-level players—60 points for players 6-10 levels lower than you; 120 points for players 11 or more levels lower than you.
If you have even one Infamy Point, you will be labeled an outlaw.
We won't penalize you for being an outlaw (having Infamy Points), but the community may retaliate as it sees fit.
Infamy Points will diminish at a rate of one every five minutes. You can also work them down one at a time by killing monsters equal to your level or higher.

So its like a weak version of Eve's security status that resets at a rate of 1 every 5 mins? Meh, not a big enough deterrent.

What happens if you die to another player, do any of you're items drop? Tera's world pvp sounds really good, can you just attack anyone, anywhere?

Yea, I believe you can also go in towns, so if you're red at the end of the night just go to a safe zone and AFK.

To the best of my knowledge you will not drop items, I think if you're red and you die your gems will break - I could be wrong.

Carebear PvP Servers lol
I'll still kill everything :P

If people are gonna whine about getting ganked then maybe they should play PvE? :/

Time to make low level alts and run them into PvP zones lol

Don't get me wrong, I have no issue whatsoever with ganking. It's when a player thats much higher level camps you and shuts down your gaming experience for whatever length of time they want that I have an issue with. You can't tell me that that is enjoyable for the person getting camped/repeatedly ganked in any way at all.

Flogging a dead horse though, carry on!

LOL you're quite the man arent you? Everyone here is really impressed, you carry on.

Its still only mid beta, something tells me theyre going to figure out theyre only encouraging pk's by these dumb measures - labelling them an outlaw/making them 'infamous' as punishment? Thats what they want!

Im guessing we'll see a lot more ganking in levelling zones because they wont be able to resist, a lot more negativity and a real fix before open. Otherwise its going to be a race to level and the levelling zones will be BGs. Fun if youre at max, miserable if youre trying to level.

This is for the US version of TERA regarding the CBT this weekend:

Duration: Friday, March 9 at 11:00 AM PST to Sunday, March 11 at 11:59 PM PST
Servers: Arachnaea (PvE), Serpentis Isle (PvE), Valley of Titans (PvP), Jagged Coast (PvP)
Maximum Level: 32
Character Slots: 2 per server

We've been listening to you and have some great improvements in place for Closed Beta Test 3. We've made some small tweaks to the PvP system based on your feedback. It's now uncool to kill players six or more levels lower than you, and players who do will receive the red name of shame, with their punishment left up to the community. For the exact details, please see our patch notes. Our design goal is to give players the tools to run the PvP server and set a framework that encourages meaningful PvP but doesn't let asshats ruin it for everyone else.

PvP Server Changes

Infamy Points will diminish at a rate of one every five minutes. You can also work them down one at a time by killing monsters equal to your level or higher.
Controller Updates!
We added a /controller command to access the controller options. We're looking at you, Nostromo users.
The controller option will now default to camera- or reticle-facing rather than character-facing. This should also please players using a controller-plus-mouse combination.
Quick tip: if you are using a controller with a melee class, try using the character-facing option.
All classes can now hold down the main attack controller button to activate the combo attacks. This works the same way as holding down your mouse button.
Quest Updates
Strife in Fey Forest and Keeping the Quota now spawn their quest objectives more often in more places.
A Measure of Vengeance will now spawn its objective in three different locations.
Faeries in a Fix is no longer a prerequisite to the Faerie Emissary quest.
A Few Other Miscellaneous Changes
Implemented a five-second cast time to switch between channels. No more sitting on the couch and channel-surfing.
Zone channels now have better scaling based on population, so should provide a more seamless party experience when zoning into an area.
The "Exchange" menu option has been changed to "Claim Items". You won’t have items to claim yet, but this is where your pre-order and Collector's Edition goodies will be!
Guild slash commands (/gkick, /guildkick, /gmaster, /guildmaster) are no longer case sensitive to the player's name. Rage-kicking your guildies has never been easier!
What Happened? (Some Things to Still Look Out For)
Circle the Wagons – Cinematic will not render environmental detail if player has Distant Environmental detail below the max setting of six.
Cancelling a teleport still consumes the scroll.
Mystic thrall re-engages monster after player dies. Seeking revenge, we presume.
Closing your launcher after entering TERA will cause possible crashes at server select. Please keep your launcher running to avoid this issue.
Dynamic Veridian – This mount quest will appear twice now if you are level 11 and log into 16.03.05. It won’t, however, get you a horse of another color.
Queues are displaying ordinals incorrectly. ("You are 1th} in line.") If it was just "1th" it wouldn’t be a big deal, but you can’t handle the "2th".
Items with a re-use cooldown over 20 minutes display the cooldown abnormally in the tooltip window.
When the Negotiate Confirmation popup (the brokerage negotiation) UI shows under ten seconds remaining, clicking OK does not work.
When a priest's Final Reprisal is triggered as a chain skill, the chain skill icon disappears too quickly.
Lock-on skills that are not registered on the first skill tray do not fire with left-click.
Mystic's Thrall of Life reports amount healed twice. That thrall…what a showoff.
The effects of both glyphs for the mystic's skill Teleport Jaunt do not apply at the same time.
When a stacked item without a cooldown (such as a charm) is placed on the shortcut tray and right-clicked, you will spend two rather than just one. Charming.

NA servers back up tonight, I believe its 7pm UK time for anyone that has got access to the NA CBT's :)

Any extra beta keys floating about? Really interested in this game but would like the opportunity to at least try and test it before putting in a preorder. I know curse are giving them out but you have to be based in the US.

Sign up on their site for the beta list or buy the Digital key (like £5) for promised beta access.
