Just gave Terraria a quick 10 minute blast. Was investigating whether it might be something to play with my 5-year old.
I ran about chopping trees down, using the wood to build structures to get to more trees. Did a bit of excavating with the pickaxe. Killed some blob things.
What are you supposed to do? Is there a game, or is it just a sandbox?

Dig dig dig and dig 
Lots to do tbh but you really need to look at a wiki or something. You dig to get ore to build better equipment to fight bosses really. You can also find good equipment and below ground you can find structures with chests with good gear. My 6 year old loves it but he still prefers minecraft.

Terraria is an adventure game more so than a sandbox game like Minecraft.
You slowly build up your gear, take down bosses, advance to more difficult biome's. It has a surprising amount of content to it. You can create pixel art or make giant buildings but they will only ever be in 2D so it doesn't have quite the same appeal as Minecraft in that regard. They are very different games.

Anyone have an opinion on whether Terraria is something a 5-year old would enjoy? He would only play with me around, the majority of the time, and it would only be for about half an hour once or twice a week - would he get much out of that?
It's not my sort of game, I suspect, but the boy might like it

The game works on a lot of different levels. You could play it for hours and hours just enjoying the exploring or building a home for your character. There's no need to kill the bosses if you don't want to. Just digging tunnels and seeing what you find is a very simple pleasure. I don't see why a 5 year old wouldn't like it very much.

Make a hell-elevator or should i say dig to hell. Takes a while but such good fun

Anyone still playing this? Tempted to start a new game. There are some more updates due in May and June which look pretty good as well as a brand new Terraria due in the future. 'Terraria Otherworld'

LinkTart dedi sadly no longer exists. I do have a smaller VPS but as it's linux and I don't want to risk trying to host on my work PC I'm not so sure...

I used to play this 24/7 on a server my dad used to run, it's awesome. As above, is there an OcUK server? I'd like to get back into it

Yeah the new patch looks cool, its a fun little game! if there was a OcUK server i'll most likely play again, gets kinda boring on your own at times

Also looking to get back in to it, with 1.3 being released.
If there's not much happening, I'll maybe look to get a server running, but it'd be next weekend before I'd be remotely ready.

The new mounts are great! Got a Martian invasion as soon as I logged onto an old map and got the spaceship drop.
Also the solar eclipse has been made considerably more challenging which is nice.
The new yoyo weapon might be a weapon of choice for many.

I could put up an expert mode server (new characters only) once I get my new media machine built up. I'm waiting on a chip to be sent out though.
