Terraria - Dig, fight, explore, build

I need to find how to make armour. I have the gold swords which are nice for making things die when I land hits, but unfortunately I tend to die first. Those worm things are sods.

Been playing this coop with 3 mates..started at around 4pm, just now we have realised the time. Barely scratched the surface on this but i must it is really good!

Its more adventure/fight focused than minecraft and it does this quite well. Only tried one boss atm and safe to say we got totally slaughtered. Definitely worth a shot if you've played minecraft before, heck even if you haven't its certainly a refreshing game.

I must admit I was skeptical about this game being a total minecraft rip-off and it would be boring as hell, but my Steam mates pestered me to get this so in the end I caved in and said okay. Bought it, played 5 minutes, thought "Wtf IS THIS", switched it off, then my mate gave me a newbie guide to follow, and I was on it for about 4 hours straight, really addictive!

It's like minecraft, but more RPG element and progression which gives you something to work towards, for £6 you can't go wrong, and £4.50 if you buy it in a 4-pack.

Anyone going to make an OcUK server?

Had a few co-op games with my son yesterday. Generally loving it but confused about a couple of things :

In one game I made a base of stone blocks and at night no zombies/blobs/eyeballs could get in but in another game I did the same and they kept coming in (checked base there were no gaps).

I crafted Stone walls and enemies can walk through them??

I've been trying to find info on dedicated server stuff but have drawn a blank. Have you got a link?

Walls are what you use to back the house, you want to use stone bricks to make the outline of the house.

You have to back the houses to attract traders and stuff to yours house :)

I believe a dedicated server is being worked on. From what I understand, to run a server atm you run two instances of the game - one hosts the game, the other is the client you play with.

Did you craft the background walls? You need both the outer walls and the background walls to prevent them getting in.

is it like MC where starting without at least some push in the right direction will end in disaster?

Worth sharing the newbie guide if so? :p

It's not a disaster, but there's a few things you need to know before you start really: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1893469

No idea how it works, tried the wiki?

Beyond basic gameplay features, Terraria has several elements not present in the games it takes its inspiration from. By completing specific goals, players can attract NPC merchants to occupy structures they have built, and may then buy equipment with coins gained from defeating monsters.

Players may also summon powerful boss monsters such as the Eye of Cthulhu and Skeletron, who drop rare magic items and crafting materials.

Sweet :D
