Terraria - Dig, fight, explore, build

Wanna swap? I've smashed about 11 of them (7 or 8 from this world, 3 from another I jumped onto to search for some Orbs). 2 Muskets (from the first orb of each world), about 3 Vilethorns, 3 Ball o Hurts and the rest were Starbands. Not a single Orb of Light at all.

Oh, ok, but I'm not playing online atm, tell me how I can swap :D

I'll give you an Orb of Light for a Ball o Hurt. I got a Starband too I think, a blue ring that slowly regens mana.

Just got this, first time on these sorts of games. Are you all playing single player or on an OCUK server were your homes will be stored? Also do you literally start building a home where you start and then start mining down or?

i play offline so i can build myself up as i was getting smashed online :p
i just started digging around, finding materials and generally goofing about upgrading my weapons/tools and getting some armor :D

The server seems to be doing fairly well since we introduced the auto-ban for dynamite, so I spoke to FT and think that anyone should be allowed to give out the server password to their friends, since it looks like it doesn't need to be babysat as much now due to the minority ruining it for others.

So if you have a friend who wants to join the server and you feel he's trusted to not mess up other peoples work, then give him the password yourself. I'll still give it out to people if they trust message me, but because the auto-banning dynamite stopped most of the griefing, keeping it exclusive from me is a bit pointless. If it turns out that after this the same thing happens as before it'll just end up in a password change and me having to handle everything again.

anyone got any tips on how to survive in the corruption, i seem to always get overwhelmed by those flying things :(

I just did this:

0C2126DF326C80715AAFD111773DD08927820D94

Constructed a stone tunnel across the surface of the whole corruption. And in a couple of places some of the way down inside the chasms too.

If you're using rocket boots so much you're suffering fall damage then how can you possibly maintain speed? You can't even SEE the ground from that high up and given that you have no rocket left and no other way of moving over obstacles, you are even more likely to land on/in an object that prevents you moving forwards. You're supposed to be going just over obstacles not way up in the sky.

You don't need to be very high to take fall damage. If I know there is a hill in front of me, with a flat edge on the other side, I find it easier to use my rocket boots to climb up it quickly, ivy whip too depending on the shape of the hill, then I'd just run off the edge of the hill, no need to conserve a little of my rocket boots to negate the fall damage, I can just run off and keep going. On my single player world, there are 2 large hills with corruption chasms on either side, so I find it easier to rocket boots up, land on top, then rocket boots across the chasm and let myself fall on to the straight bit of land.

The horseshoe is also handy for exploring new places, I can use my rocket boots as much as I want without leaving a tiny bit left to negate fall damage. It makes playing that little bit smoother. Sometimes I'll fly up as much as I can with my rocket boots to fight flying enemies, and hit them with my Night's Edge/Murasama, with the horseshoe I can keep swinging. Without it, I either have to conserve a little of my rocket boots, or use my ivy whip. And if I've been swinging with my sword on my way down, using my ivy whip means missing a swing with the sword. Also handy for hellshafts, the orb of light doesn't fall as fast as a player does, on a MP server sometimes people put blocks halfway down the shaft, if I can't see it then I'll die from fall damage.

I keep all my stuff offline. Am reluctant to build on the server since it is going to be reset soon.

You don't have to power way over a chasm to get past it. There is absolutely no reason why you have to take fall damage in that situation. I take more damage from damn cacti than I do fall damage and now that I've finally got a Cobalt Shield I don't have to worry about them hitting me. Nor do I have to worry about having to jump over enemies.

And nobody is questioning its benefits for hellevators and falling... though early in the game you'd be stupid to drop somewhere unknown because of the enemies not the falling. Its only when you have good defence, weapons and a significant number of life crystals you can get away with being reckless like that.

He said his forum name is Lamps, he posted in this thread a few days ago. :)

E: ^^ - I said large hills with chasms on either side. What accessories/armor do you normally wear? I've almost always got my necro, hermes boots, horseshoe, band of regen, rocket boots and cobalt shield on. I find the defense from the necro and the regen from the ring is plenty to survive anywhere, so the other 4 accessory slots usually go on items to make long distance travel a little easier.
