Terrible Jaguar re-brand

Press got early access, youtube is awash with videos from all the journos today, don’t think he’s a sell out.
I wasn't commenting on the access. I was commenting on how Mr.Anti-Progress is all of a sudden very open the new design language and stating how it is like an EV we have never seen before (ignoring the almost identical looking Cadillac).

I imagine he'll receive it the day he receives a new Defender V8 to long-term trial, and all of a sudden any downside of an EV will become an upside.

"I just love standing here for an hour admiring the contours of the body work whilst the cutting edge 50kW DC charging gently feeds the car with the cleanest fuel available, it gives passers-by a fantastic opportunity to bask in the glory of jaGuar and ask me questions all about it - suddenly, the process of filling with petrol seems so archaic and rushed, with no time to appreciate the delicate nuances of the cars styling"

"and actually in my old age I need to stop for a pee every hour for 15mins anyway; why would anyone possibly need anymore I do not know".

50kW?

What is so disappointing about this whole thing - is that the iPace is a great looking car. It
was pretty unique styling wise when it came out. I think it did hard yards in convincing regular Jaguar folk that Jaguar could be cool and innovative.

The XE was a nothing burger unfortunately (although I loved my XE25t). I can count on one hand how many of the facelift models I have seen in real life; and the XF was always at a disadvantage to the battle tank 520/530D (I loved my 15' XF - but it was a decade behind the Mercedes '12 C180 it replaced). XJ I think did well for the market it targeted but those buyers are all dying out now.

They had a real chance to rotate to a volume EV company whilst retaining the highest end cars. If they had brought iPace production to the UK, presumably they'd have been making a lot more margin too?

Considering how close it seems to mirror other cars, is this using a completely bespoke platform and battery or is it just lifting them from another car like the Range Rover?

If I was paying 6-Figures for a car I would want it completely bespoke.

Please don't be a Stellantis job :(

What figures? Not trying to poke a hole in your statement, just curious :)

I’d buy anything that annoyed farage.

Not published, but talking to someone very much in the know about it.

They are very happy with all the noise around it, and so would I be tbh. Imagine how many forums have 36 page threads about Jaguar, front page of Sky News, and BBC news for the second week running, and being talked about on national radio.

Theres no such thing as bad publicity, unless your Greg Wallace .....

Is he really "anti-progress"? I've always had the impression he's pretty balanced on EVs, and most of his criticisms seem pretty fair given his use case (rural, more long distance drives, semi-regular towing) - which is why he seems to lean more toward plug-in hybrids.

He's done quite a lot of work to get his farm business powered by renewables; granted, you could just say he's probably thinking mainly about his bottom line, but I'm sure he's mentioned about how it makes hybrids very practical as a result, and it's not the sort of thing he'd be doing if he wasn't at least quite progressive in his outlook.

Full disclosure, I've not watched his video yet, I will get around to it later.

Yes, that was the joke. That he would flip flop so hard he'd even be praising it even if it came with crap outdated features like 50kW DC Charging because of how gently it charged the car.
Tbh I don’t watch any of his videos, best way then they have to change their style. Could be worse. Could be cleaning a GT3 RS cylinder bores with wire wool on a drill as content

Is it? I think it looks rather awkward.
It is a great looking car that is distinct (or was distinct) from anything else that existed. BMW did similar with the i3 and i8. It looks Jaguar whilst being totally distinct from the range.

His EV videos are a laughing stock and his affinity to JLR is borderline outrageous. His refurb videos are great (the XJ, Zagato, etc). I agree his personal use case - but he has a platform and he uses it to totally diss them; ignoring ~80% of the population where they would be perfectly suited.

‘Pretty balanced’ is how I’d put it.

Like a lot of us, I get the impression he thinks EVs are meta max when longer term solutions need put in place, his videos with JCB were good for example.

He’s always pretty fair on some of the monstrosity electric BMWs.

i will admit................... i dislike it less than i did when I 1st saw it, but that is a fairly low bar to beat TBH. maybe it will be like one of those songs you hear which at 1st you dislike but after a slow burn it ends up one of your most played.

but i dont think i will reverse ferret my views that much to be honest.... much like some of the new BMWs with the massive front grilles... i didnt like them at 1st and i still would not want one now either.

The Cadillac is a good comparison ............... and i have never liked them either, infact they encompass everything I dont like about American cars.

On the bright side.................... i have never liked ALL Jags either, so just because i dont like the concept, and may not like their big 1st car........... it doesnt mean they wont produce something else which i do like in the range in the future i guess.

1000bhp and 430 mile (so lets say 350 mile winter motorway) range................ i do like that however.

It will be interesting to see how this design philosophy translates to the more affordable side of their range. Or have jaGuar decided they only need to sell a few hundred overpriced oddities a year?

there wont be an affordable side.... They want to be more like Bentley etc, v low sales, v high markup with ultra luxury. starting price from £100k (which presumably will go a lot higher than that for all the things specced cars

I am just glad my local main dealer is also Land/Range rover so hopefully they wont close, otherwise i would have a right old trek for servicing etc. a lot of the jaguar dealers are going to have to close.

mind you all that said... what is the entry price of a Range Rover these days? and it isnt like even a Land Rover Defender is the trusted farmer / military vehicle work horse that made its name.
