Terrible Jaguar re-brand

Yea but remember this thing is going to be super heavy.
That will help it get more traction ;)

being realistic for me its irrelevant anyway.... we may as well be talking about the new Ferrari Design philosophy. Regardless of how much I like or dislike it, my current car will be my 1st and last Jag (unless i have a mid life crisis and buy a 4 year old F-Type) because I will never earn enough to be in the "new" Jaguar purchaser demographic.

I'm not sure who IS the new Jaguar purchaser demographic tbh. Does it even exist?

Who is going to buy a giant pink EV for 100k which looks like a sex toy? Knowing they will lose at least 50k in value before they sell it.

So it would just look like this older Cadillac instead....

There is no getting away with the side profile.

What is this new customer base they are they trying to attact exactly?

What side profile should it have? If you're talking side profile only then I'd say it looks more similar to a Bentley GT or, even going older, an Aston Martin Rapide with the roofline joining right at the back where the Cadillac joins the boot lid/deck earlier. It certainly does undercut the whole "copy nothing" marketing slogan but in reality it's a luxury GT couple - it was always going to be a GT coupe shape. But the rest of the styling is certainly ... unique.

there wont be an affordable side.... They want to be more like Bentley etc, v low sales, v high markup with ultra luxury. starting price from £100k (which presumably will go a lot higher than that for all the things specced cars

I am just glad my local main dealer is also Land/Range rover so hopefully they wont close, otherwise i would have a right old trek for servicing etc. a lot of the jaguar dealers are going to have to close.

mind you all that said... what is the entry price of a Range Rover these days? and it isnt like even a Land Rover Defender is the trusted farmer / military vehicle work horse that made its name.
I'm pretty sure I read that the average Range purchase price is £140k odd, think that's includes Defenders. This is probably who they're aiming the new JaGs at.

Yeah credit to them, JLR know how to push a reasonably decent car with a long tail of issues at a very high price. Although I think the wheels are falling off of this a bit, the special edition SVRs are not shifting at all. My boss has been given 4 or 5 different prices to trade up to one.

I think it was Ford who said their employees should be able to afford the cars they make.

I can't see it being the same at JRL :D

Did you miss the Ford layoffs?

Just constant negativity. Same- boring. Different - too different.

1000hp. Too heavy

200hp. Too slow.

Goldilocks is here

They are very happy with all the noise around it, and so would I be tbh. Imagine how many forums have 36 page threads about Jaguar, front page of Sky News, and BBC news for the second week running, and being talked about on national radio.
if all the noise is about better choices elsewhere though ?

Couldn't see any smart phone videos of the audience/response at the Miami event ... ? Miami pink - like their flamingos,
central partition between driver and passenger, why ?
internal ambiance with narrow windows for those in the limousine rear ?
what kind of productivity statement is it - being unable to show a closer to manufacture design (they're going to be late to market,, and, need some turnover in the meantime)

Is he really "anti-progress"? I've always had the impression he's pretty balanced on EVs, and most of his criticisms seem pretty fair given his use case (rural, more long distance drives, semi-regular towing) - which is why he seems to lean more toward plug-in hybrids.

He's done quite a lot of work to get his farm business powered by renewables; granted, you could just say he's probably thinking mainly about his bottom line, but I'm sure he's mentioned about how it makes hybrids very practical as a result, and it's not the sort of thing he'd be doing if he wasn't at least quite progressive in his outlook.

Full disclosure, I've not watched his video yet, I will get around to it later.
I agree, his videos have always had a balanced view? the EV crowd are very touchy, it's like apple vs android or nvidia vs amd or intel vs amd gang, you don't have to pick a side, just have balance and from what I've watched his videos go into simple factual info and no bs, he's obviously there talking about his own pov and his use but the facts still stand. Alternatives / e fuels are for example great and I can see why he'd be very keen on getting them cheaper / more popular as it makes sense for someone who actually enjoys old school ICE cars.

He parked a caravan lengthways over 4 bays lol. He isn't balanced at all.

How are jaguar late to the market. They were the first European OEM with an EV.
It was a shame..... The ipace really was leading the pack when it came out... only the Model S traded blows with it EV wise and personally i would choose the ipace every time over the Model S as a car (aside from the tesla charging of course but that is not the cars fault)

Maybe Covid and the chip shortage really hurt, but then that was the same for everyone..... but (much like BMW and the i3) it was almost like they sat on their hands for years. Other than some welcome tweaks for MY21 nothing really changed with the car for 7 years.... which is a long time for any car, but for an EV where the technology is moving on super fast that was an eternity imo (even the i3 got increased battery range and a face lift).

I would have loved to have seen what a proper ipace gen 2 would have been like. (visually in truth i think it has aged really well but in 2024 it was lacking in areas like charging speed and range for a £70k car)

Which they entirely outsourced to be fair lol.
They designed and engineered it and used the capability of 3rd party rather than displace ICE production lines already building cars. building a EV plant would have been a weird idea and poor investment now they have gone all EV..

I can't comment to how much they designed and engineered it, but that posts stinks like the Mini/BMW debacle where my Rover friends insisted it just needed the badge putting on when BMW asset stripped it....

Noise is still noise though isnt it. For all the vocal haters, there will be plenty of silent, I'll keep an eye on this people.
