Terrible Jaguar re-brand

They took too long to develop, that's why they cancelled the xj, Audi had it's e-tron launch shortly after the xj should have and the technology employed on the e-tron was a significant step up from the xj.

The xj was supposedly heavily based on the tech from the I-pace.

They also failed to develop the I-pace,

Jaguar seem to forgot that you have to update and release new products it's not like the good old days where you could get away with selling the same vehicle for 40 years like British manufacturers used to try and get away with.
Thats still not late to the party, they were first with a ground up EV. The charge rate is likely the battery supplier warranty and maintaining that. I would avoid confusing tech with charge rate.

British and Nissan? (GTR) Mind you they dont look in a good place right now...

The front end reminds me of a Rolls Royce.

I think this is perhaps where they think they see a gap in the market - a luxury car, around the BMW 7, Merc S price point that gives off more of a bespoke, high end 'Rolls Royce style' impression where a BMW 7 / Merc S just look like bigger and nicer 3 series / C Class.

I kind of like it as a piece of design tech. Would look great in Jay Leno's garage in some weird 'what we thought the future would look like' collection. Would I buy it? No, far too expensive, I like buttons and am finding modern cars too annoying. Will it save Jaguar? No chance, the general public will find it too impracticable, far too expensive.

I can't help but think the high end vehicle market is becoming far too saturated now.

And far less people can afford them compared to last decade. Covid ruined things.

It's pretty much a cliche of "futuristic car" design going back to the 1920s (the wheels especially reek of 1920s design)
I was going to say. Honestly all I can think of is Batman Beyond and Batman The Animated Series from 80/90’s. Gothic style with early 20th century style. Very very little originality.

That rear quarter reminds me of something but I can't place it. I thought it was maybe a design from the movie Sky Captain but think it was another movie....just not sure which one.

The production version will be quite different to this. Shame tbh, by the replies on here I'm In the minority, but I quite like the concepts that have been revealed

Definitely looks like a muscle car that should be in the sin city film or next years game release ... alongside chevrolet chevelle ? looks similar,
would be rather ironic with it's diversity aspirations.

On USA roads maybe it fits but where in London/UK could you show it off.

It's not just charge rate, it's the efficiency of the motors, capacity of the batteries for their size etc, not to mention the in cabin driver tech.

Jaguar arrived to the party early with tesla, unfortunately Jag left early, while Tesla carried on partying waiting for the others to arrive.

This thread is about their new EV and they left some EV party early ? What ??

Cabin tech??? It’s still better than the latest MEB.

Have you actually formed these opinions yourself or basing it on what you have read ? Shock as small aerodynamic horse cart uses more energy than a big 2.1 ton premium car? The extra 1p a mile must be horrific for running costs.

I disagree, the wealth gap is increasing. We're seeing more extremes. Hence why it makes sense to go after one end because the middle is already saturated. Let's not forget the UK isn't even their main/target market.

What we are seeing is increasing younger generations who are priced out of the housing market, living with parents so up to a point have more disposable income to put towards finance on a luxury car, but only up to a point - or they wouldn't be priced out of housing.

From people who don’t have £90k for a car mostly. So leave them too it. Anyway I thought social media was full of Arla boycott this week ?

Money can't buy taste.

Wow

Why did the ipace fail. It got car of the year many times. Tesla are no where near leading EV tech anymore. They struggle with stopping wheels roofs and suspension bolts falling out. And cars coming out today seem to be ok at 100kW charging. It’s problems found by people who have never even owned EVs it seems.

Keeping it simple. Cause people can’t understand complex things.

And yet Tesla out sell Jag by quite some margin.

Just because the car won awards it doesn't mean to say it's a car the public want,

The Jag was good when released, and then quickly out classed.

Quick Google search brought the following, it seems it has it's fair share of faults aswell.

The Jaguar I-Pace has faced a number of issues, including brake failures, fires, and low sales:
  • Brake failures: In 2019, Jaguar recalled some I-Pace models due to a potential issue with the electrical regenerative braking system. In March 2024, former Big Brother winner Craig Phillips reported that his I-Pace's brakes failed multiple times on New Year's Eve. Phillips returned the car and called for a full recall.
  • Fires: Jaguar has reported that there have been three fires in the U.S. after previous software updates on the I-Pace.
  • Low sales: The I-Pace has had low sales and a lukewarm set of features.
  • Competition: The I-Pace faced tough competition from the Tesla Model Y, Kia EV6, and Hyundai Ioniq 5, which have a faster charging speed and longer range.
  • Heater issues: Some early models of the I-Pace had issues with the heater.
  • Technology updates: The I-Pace could have benefited from improvements to its range, charging speed, and technology.
