Thank god my car is pre 2001 (Car Tax changes)

Why don't we rise up against this rubbish? Oh, that's right, we can't as we'll be branded terrorists and arrested.

Reminds me of the article i was reading about fuel prices, Petrol in venuezla is just 5p a litre. Its subsidised by the government, and it costs them $ 2 billion a year to do this.

However, last time they tryed to remove the fuel subsidys, there were riots lasting for weeks.

Needless to say, the fuel is still subsidised today ...

If only our country were like that.

I just wish we (as a nation) would actually take action but no individual seems to want to stand up and be counted. Even the recent fuel protests were a joke. All we have now is keyboard warriors posting petitions on the num 10 website :(

And by the way, I include myself in this apathy.

It would be ridiculous, everyone would be happy to drive 300 miles to work and drive 8 litre cars with in incentives for economy at all. Completely unsustainable.

Subsidised fuel is a bad thing for everyone. Even us.

Would anyone compare the incompetence of the Venezuelan government to the British government?

I might

i was more referring to the riots of the public that wouldnt allow the government to rob them of what they've come to expect

our government robs us and we just lie down and accept it

unlike the french who are very good at going on strike and crippling things, a la french port workers bringing calais to a standstill.

Anyone who votes Labour in the local elections tomorrow is IMO a complete and utter fool. A sweeping statement I know but I am sick and tired of tax tax tax, nanny state, do what you're told rubbish.

You speak the truth! im voting for you!

Oh I know it was utterly moronic thing to do, what did they expect? I know nothing and I know there would be a fallout when things were better and it was time to take the subsidies away.

The French are great, when they're not setting Paris on fire they are on strike getting what they want. A lot of the unions over there fight for things together that doesn’t necessarily affect their union and so the whole country is more 'politically aware'. Don't get me started on what they are doing about dwindling population compared to here. :D

I'll just stick to pre 2001 cars until I find something that will justify the high tax. (I have no intention of a buying a 1l tin can, so whatever i get will cost a lot).

You also have the safety side to consider as people on a tight budget will be forced in to buying older cars with less safety gear, instead of putting the money they would have saved in tax into buying something more modern.

Everyone should drive Imported cars, be it crazy jap motors or huge american beasts, so long as it emmits loads of CO2 and dodges the huge tax bands.

If its been SVA'd no tax increase

If its been ESVA'd = tax increase

Some 06 Impreza Spec C imports have £200 tax. Insurance on an imported Impreza is going to be more than a UK'er but at least you'll have an extra £200 for it. :)

Looks my next car is definately an R32 or R33 GT-R, as they pollute more than a DC2.

Now can an R32 or R33 be insured as a classic car yet ? :D

How much will the new tax bandings effect all current cars which fall into the 400+ bracket. Will they dramatically drop in price?

How will this effect the used market. May be bargains to have if you can stomach the tax??

I would imagine the biggest drop would be on older/lower priced cars, of course this will have some knock on effect but most folks buying expensive cars won't be that bothered

Indeed, cars like the M3 etc won't suffer half as much as, for example, an automatic 2.0 mondeo which also falls into the high tax band. It's cars that can't justify their high CO2 figures with something (performance, utility etc) that will suffer.
