*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

Well...shoulders today.

Done a various mix that i'm happy about, apart from my lateral raises always suck on the 'amount' =/

Anyway:

BB seated press (Front and behind head): 19kg x 10

Upright row: 22.5kg x 10

Lateral raise: 7.5kg per arm x 10 (bit of a struggle :()

Front raises: 7.5kg per arm x 10 (Easier than laterals :p)

DB shrugs: 16kg per arm x 20 (overkill i guess but meh, hate my traps)

(All exercises done with prior lifts of varying weight building upto it)

Also...I'm addicted to deadlifts...even though i've only done them what...three days training? And the weight is 'low', I just want to keep doing them! But i'm resisting :)

Also, i've heard different things regarding squats on DL days...Some say do squats then DL, due to the squats prior it makes the initial DL lift easier...Which I can understand.

But other say no way?

Anyway...I'm hopefully on my way to gaining some decent mass if i keep at things :)

Just try them out and see, as far as I'm aware there's no hard and fast rule to say you should or should not do both on the same day - from what I can tell there are a few core principles to weightlifting that work for pretty much everyone and the rest is a case of experimentation until you find what works for you.

I don't think squats and deadlifts on the same day is a great mix for me but it's certainly do-able.

Thanks :)

I'll admit, i've gone to do squats after DL's and just not bothered :o Really didn't fancy it!

I'll se what next monday thinks :)

the main idea behind why you shouldn't do them on the same session is that the deadlift is the most demanding exercise of them all, and the squat follows closely through.
Needless to say that after one of them the other seems a bit uncool. :D

Same, the fatigue after doing deadlifts is crazy! ^^

Hey,

I've had a break from big heavy stuff and have just been maintaining, and as a result cutting a bit, and had a 2 weeks holiday, so I'm a little behind. I'd love to say I'm going to get to 650kg by the end of the year but I doubt it... we'll see. I will hit 650kg at some point in time though! :)

Ahh thats fair enough man, how are you getting on with your cut?

For me it's bulking is easy peasy and cutting is a nightmare due to the discipline required!

but saying that, can imagine a big fella like yourself is still on a 2.5k cal diet even on your cut :p

Oh I wasn't purposefully cutting, I was just sustaining what I had, and going on holiday necessarily means that I cut a bit! :p

Leaned up lots, and understandably lost some strength, but that's not a big deal, it'll come back.

Just carb cycled a bit more, and yes, still eating a fair bit, but I've got a big appetite in general! ;)

It was nice to be able to have a few beers on holiday and not worry about diet.

Looks like we have the same set of excercies for our shoulders although mine are in the following order;

Dumbell BP
Front/Lateral raises supersetted
Upright rows
Shrugs

When it comes to deadlifts......I only do 5x5 on 125kg atm, but god damnnnnn will you get sick of it, so tiring :(

nooo....I think deadlifts are my fall back love should my relationship go to shambles! :D

Pretty much though...can't remember what order i did them in...think it was lateral raises etc, then BB presses, rows, then shrugs...could have done some rear flys I guess but really wasn't in the mood :p

I need to find more weight anyway for my Deadlifts...also need some kind of squat/press rack for as little money as possible!

Start with the press, it's compound movements like that that need the most energy in your workouts, isolations at the end when you've burned out your muscles :D

My shoulder routine is pretty much the same also, just I super set lateral, front raises and upright rows....killer

hmm okay...I really can't remember which way I did it now, think it was the way I said previously...DANG!!!

I'll do them first then next time, quite pleased with them actually, grinded a few extras out also at the heaviest set so i'm happy :)

I used to super set lat/front raises with DB presses, but i've started using BB's for the presses...So I just 'superset' the lateral and front raises...really feeling the lats today actually which makes a big change! I just kinda do the uprights afterwards.

Thanks though, all about learning!

Could anyone recommend a workout for back and legs tonight? Will probably be knocking out something along the lines of:
Legs:
Lunges
Squats
Leg Press
Leg Press Incline
Calf Raises (or equivelent, seeing as my gym doesn't have a typical calf raise machine or planks to do it on)

Back:
Wide-grip pull up (this will be assisted as I am actually the weakest man in the world - FACT)
Close grip chin up
Dead lifts

Then I'll do hammer the abs as I always do! Feel I need more back exercises though, I don't think my gym has an inverse fly machine as I'd normally superset that :(

Ive noticed recently that my left side is looking more defined in general, particularly noticeable in my traps, pecs, triceps. However my right bicep is larger as is my right quadricep, I am naturally right sided so was just wondering why this would be?

I'd do:

Legs:
Squats
Calf Raise (just use a barbell and stand your toes on a couple of 5kg plates)

Back:
Deadlifts
Bent Over Rows
WG pull ups (assisted if needed)
Inverted Rows

That lot would completely knacker me. Squats and deadlifts in the same session should be pretty difficult.

Cheers Paradox. I'll probably do the legs last, so will end up doing squats after the deadlifts, then calf raises and if I still have more in me, will tackle the leg press I think.

What's an Inverted Row?

Best part of a holiday that! ;) It is a holiday after all I guess :)

I reaaaaaaaaly want a rack of some sort...along with a decent bench, but I need to win the lottery :p

mate - go second hand, gumtree is your best bet then ebay.

i just bought over £500 worth of dumbells plus a stand for them for £300. i was going to get a set of ironmasters but they cost about £600 all in, so ive saved myself £300 and got better equipment, its all about 2nd hand from now on apart from a leg press and matting, ill need to buy that brand new.

I'll do second hand long as its in good nick obv :p

Weights...was probably going to do that anyway just because they're so exspensive.

I'll have a look :)
