*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

The thought of a 3 x BW deadlift makes me feel nautious, Cracking stuff though. 2.2 is plenty for me :p

Any idea how much Andy Boulton tips the scales at? As with a 457.5KG under his belt (I heard it was broken by him again at the expo this year @ 460KG?) he'll probaly be knocking on the door of 4 x BW surely?

Edit: Maybe not, just read he weighs 25 stone (158KG) which makes his world record lift just shy of 2.9 x BW. His 550KG squat is 3.5 x BW though!

Don't think I could ever understand what it must feel like to squat over half a metric tonne.

Rubbish. Deadlift is more than achievable by you.

For me:
Deadlift - about 2kg short of being elite!
Squat is well off, near on 50kg i think!
Bench is very poor, 30kg off or so.

You're right I was probably being a bit harsh on myself.

I need 20kg on my deadlifts to get to Elite at my current weight
I need about 30kg or so on my squat to get to Elite.

So achievable - it'll just take a bit of time. Not bothered about bench.

Advanced
An individual with multi-year training experience with definite goals in the higher levels of competitive athletics.

Elite
Refers specifically to athletes competing in strength sports. Less than 1% of the weight training population will attain this level.

Erm..anywhere near to Elite or Advanced is doing bloody well guys!

Yeah there are some very strong people on this forum. For my weight though I'm pretty weak IMO. However, I'm harsh on myself - or tough on myself because I don't accept mediocrity.

Ugh, seems I have no choice but to start using an Elbow wrap on my right arm.

Doctor says I either do that until the tendon is back to normal or I need to take a steroidal injection. After which I won't be allowed to do any training for six months.

Oh well I can live with a wrap for a month or two, I only have trouble with chest and shoulder exercises anyway.

Did a personal best of 40kg (inc. bar) barbell bench on Monday, 3x10 - was absolutely chuffed with that. Chest was aching for a day or two like! Tri's and legs today. Have to do legs on a wednesday 'cause I don't like doing them, and I figured if I did legs on a Friday I'd probably end up thinking "meh, let's just knock off for the weekend".....!

Hammered cardio yesterday, 20 mins on the bike doing one of the pre-sets that raises and lowers the resistance at set intervals. 10 minutes on the rowing machine. 5 minutes skipping. I like to think I push myself when I do it though - the burnt caleries on the two machines tallied up to 350, which I was quite chuffed with!

This will be the first time I've recorded my leg weights today, so gunna take a couple of weeks til I can figure out my max for squats I imagine!

Well done on the Personal Best mate, just keep aiming for those :)

Spot on for doing legs, I hate doing them too but I know that they are one of the most important parts you have to do. And remember, if you don't work your legs, your upperbody gains will suffer as well

@Steeds, I know I'm pathetically weak at the moment and it's quite amusing. But it makes it worth while when you increase the weight, and see a physical difference in muscle mass - such a buzz!

Limiting upperbody gains through not working legs is exactly why I strive to do legs every week and not skimp on them!

Jestar, have a word mate! No-one truthfully enjoys legs ;)

P.S. I'mma try and get some pictures of my flabby frame up in t'other thread at some point so people can point and laugh :) Just a shame I never took any pics 6 months ago before I really started!

Not pathetically weak at all mate. 40kg for 3 sets of 10 is good progress! In 6 months I was still on the smith machine getting to a respectable weight before moving to the bench so you're doing better than me!

Keep it up mate :)
