*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

Just did legs, feels goood. Was a bit wobbily on the 5 minute walk back to my house though :D :) Couldnt get on the free weight squats to give them a try as someone was using the rack thing for like half an hour . He was doing some great atg squats though so props to him. Gonna have to put a picture up in the other thread to compare my twig like legs to BennyC's monsters :D

Oh and i've decided to pretty much stop drinking except for the odd social beer(whaaa? a student who doesnt drink into a omca 15 times a week?!?!?) because of a combination of lack of money, finding it pointless and feeling better for it :)

That's hell of a jump, Zip! The same again next week? ;D

@Steeds, Cheers man. I've never touched the Smith machines, I've always figured it'd be better to leap straight to the bench as that'll work stabilisers etc as well? I've not managed to have any plates slip off the end yet, so I'm not that wobbly thankfully!

@Skillmister, another reason why I dislike legs - I drive away from the gym like a complete chav as I can't feel how much clutch or Go Pedal I'm using :p

Yeah I used the Smith machine, was benching about 60-70kg then went to the free bar and went straight down to about 35-40 for a couple of weeks because my stabilisers were useless.

So good job on sticking with it and doing it properly

You should try something i saw some regulars in my gym at home doing. They put a really light plate on one end of the bar and nothing on the other and did really slow reps with it. Tried it after and it was super difficult but i could feel it in my chest which i cant normally with bench press.

:D My dad was like that at home after a legs day. Was worse for me when i had a 15 minute cycle up hill back from the gym, now that put me off doing legs alright.

I've not had any problems with NOT feeling it on my chest yet. When I first started using barbell on the bench, the lad I was with taught me the whole "tuck your shoulderblades in and push your chest out" technique, been using that ever since (even on the wide grip bench press machine I use etc too) and I definitely feel my chest getting really tight when I get pumped.

I must say this forum has definitely spurred me on further than I would've doing it by myself as well. Great wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm around here!

Well todays not been a good day finished work at midnight last night came home had a few beers and headed to bed. About an hour later I wake up in absolute agony, I had somehow managed to dislocate my shoulder in my sleep
Anyway I've spent most of the day in A+E and the fracture clinic and they want to get me an MRI scan and then possibly operate due to it happening quite often, only problem being that wold put me out of heavy lifting for up to 9months so no weights in the gym and I'll have to find a new job :(

tom_e: that's really rubbish, hope that you can get it sorted soon and try to rest it as much as you can of course.

Freefaller: good effort on the 120kg powerclean, going for that as a HC2PP next week? :p Still no sign of the new equipment/music/security gates/turnstiles etc back at the old gym so nothing much changes.

120kg clean to push press?!! WOWZA lol thatd be epic

need some help on grip strength, iv finally got my dead lifts higher than my squats but am now stuck at 120kg deads and squats catching (115kg) up fast because my grip keeps failing before i can complete the 5 needed for the set :( get to 4 have to re grip after a short pause to get the last set

Am following stronglifts again

It's just a matter of training your grip...I'm not doing DL's that heavy yet, but i'll probably have the same issue...Is this without chalk or?

Just keep doing lifts that involve grip etc, like shrugs and upright rows and DL's...It'll come with time really :)

I find I struggle with grip when doing deadlifts even at 50kg tbh! I have to go mixed grip, but then again I believe there's something wrong with my wrist - it's been "sprained" for over 3 weeks now.......?

Was watching the womens powerlifting today in the gym.

16 year old british lass weighing in at around 58KG. Clean & Push Press 103KG!!!!eleventy!!!111!1

This isn't from todays events but her recently I think. Used to be a gymnast apparently. Decent looking too ;) Unlike the Australian lass with the mega hairy arm pits!

Looks like Olympic Lifting to me.

Powerlifting is just Bench, Squat and Deadlift.
