*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

They weigh 70kg and less, yet lifting close to 3x their bodyweight.

Sweet :)

It's funny when you look at it like that...This is the reason you need to concentrate on your own lifts to your own body weight :)

Think i'm hovering around 80 odd kg or something, so when I can lift my body weight (Available weights permitting, trying to put money away each month) then i'll be over the moon :)

EDIT: Although, to be honest, i think i've done it during 'other activities' anyway, just i wasnt taking note :p

Any tips on training 1rm?

5/3/1 kinda thing? Or just a warmup and then BAM go for that 1rm?

Worried about pre-gaming ready for the 1rm and tiring out those muscles, before the big lift comes into play!

I do a warmup with 5 reps.
Increase weights and 5 reps.

After that I might to 2 more increases at 5 reps each, after that I only do 1 rep with each increase.

Then that 1rm Personal Record. :)

I'm sure I can cross it, they'll just send me packing back if I show up without a visa.

To think 2 years ago South Africa didn't need a visa for England since we use to be a Commonwealth Member.

It's pathetic dude, i'm sure if you can get 'reasons' for the travel the visa may be easier?

"I'm going for an OcUK meet to pump some iron" :p

"So, why do you want to enter the UK?"

"Well sir, I'm going for the beefcakes. They seem rather big here and I feel like they need to be taken down a few notches."

Haha.

Funny thing is the Visa costs more than a Ryanair flight :p

Anybody a member of a www.thegymgroup.com gym?

There's one opened up here in Leicester and im thinking of moving to it.

£20 joining fee and £16 per month. No yearly contract and its open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Looks like its got loads of kit. Only downside I can see is it might be too busy/full of eejits 'cos its right in the city centre.

Would be fun for a meet, probably won't get a chance till summer 2011. College and visas, it's so annoying :p
Dude definitely do it for Summer '11 :)

It would be awesome :)
Ya habib, we're yet to meet! What better way to do it than a lifting session? :D

That looks fairly similar to the 24/7 equivalent in Sheffield called PureGym. The equipment looks exactly the same. It's good value for money, the only downsides are at peak time it's ridiculously busy and there was only one powerack which is also used as a bench. And the olympic bar was one of them 15KG shoddy ones. With the amount of people there it's so not worth it imo.

My complete workouts revolve around squatting/barbell work. For me the biggest and only advantage is the ability to go at daft o' clock :D

2 days in on the SL5x5 routine after 12mnths off and my legs are ruined I can hardly walk down stairs should i train through it tomorrow?
Have you started with a weight you can comfortably handle?

And yes train through it. 5x5 does really take a toll on if you're not much of a leg guy. More so if you've been out of training for that long!
