Your grip shouldn't really fail with straps unless your using them wrong. The mechanics of a strap is that when used correctly it should be almost impossible for your grip to slip.

But good lifting never the less :)

You might be using the straps wrong. If you're doing overhand grip when you put the strap on you need to wrap it under the bar, up and back around towards you, not wrap it over the bar and away from you.

Benny is right in saying it's almost impossible for it to slip, I can pick up 140kgs with straps on and take my ring and little finger and thumb off and it still holds on.

Hmm, i had best get youtubeing on how to use straps properly, i was a little miffed about whether to have the loose bit facing the hand or away from it!

Will do my working sets again next week, then the week after will try again.

Cheers guys

Maybe an easy way to explain it is that the strap wraps around the bar the same in direction as your thumb does. :)

Yeah that's probably the best way!

Once your strapped in you can then 'shuffle/roll' your wrists around the bar like how you roll a newspaper or magazine up to get it nice and tight. Not too tight though otherwise you find it chafs your wrists and is also uncomorftable/cuts of blood supply!

So am like wth man, I'm a diamond member, I'm paying £45.95 a month,

at £46 a month, if you had the space at home you could always build your own gym, stick it on a credit card/interest free loan or whatever. or one of those buy now pay in x amount of time deal.

that way your set for life. obviously you wont have any machines but you will still be able to work every muscle in your body through free weights.

or if you have money spare, look on ebay / gumtree, local papers for any deals to be had on second hand stuff.

Back day today, worked up to 180kg mixed grip deadlifts, new pb for mixed grip :D.

A math fail on my part meant that what I thought was 170 was 180 and 180 was 190 >_>. The 180 went up quite smoothly but the 190 I couldn't budge off the floor :(.
After that I managed 150x3 (overhand grip), 150x3(overhand grip), 150x4(mixed), 120x6

End of my shoulder work out today strapped some weights to my ankles and did leaning back close grip chin-ups with flexion of the hip (leg raises), abz & gunz in one exercise :D
But all seriousness, great little exercise :)

Planning on going to the gym tomorrow morning for the first time.. Local leisure centre charges around £5.50 for a session which is something that's put me off going before now.

I'm 18, weigh 11st and about /6'1"6'2". As i'm not experienced in the gym, can anyone offer any advice? What should I be doing there? etc

Thanks. :)
