dam my grip strength :( can only lift 120kg deadlift for 1 rep, i know i can do more i just cant hold onto the bar for longer than the one rep, my squats have now once again overtaken my deadlifts

Can anyone link me up to somewhere to buy decent straps from, apparently canterbury see no reason to stock them in any of its sports stores

If you dont already try using some chalk before moving onto straps

How much do you weigh?

Don't move on to straps yet. I'm not against straps but how will you improve your grip once you start getting heavier? You do realise your grip will suffer tremendously for all your other lifts/workouts?

It's quite amazing you can squat more than you can deadlift!

Might seem like a stupid question, but where can i buy chalk for this sort of stuff?

I use climbing chalk from decathalon.

there isnt much in it squats are at 127.5kg and deadlift 120kg, its my grip that wont let me go any higher on deads, i tried 130 dead and it only came up 1/5 of the way before slipping out my hands

I weigh 76kg, im aiming for 2xbw on deads i reckon i could get quite close easily right now, just my grip.

Never used chalk...il ask if they will allow me too

Some static holds will help improve your grip endurance massively.

I normally do about 4-6 sets on a fat bar of holds lasting around 20-40 seconds and then finish up heavier for 1 or 2 on a standard bar. I do this two or three times a week.

My grip feels much more secure and doesn't fatigue anywhere near as quickly after 2 weeks of this.

Like literally just holding a bar of weight for as long as i can?. i tried static hangs but it hurts my shoulders after a while

They shouldnt have a problem with liquid chalk its pretty clean, I use it at my gym which isnt overly hardcore or anything and they havent mentioned it.

Yep thats it, if youve got a rack set up like you would for a rack pull with over what your normal 1RM is then just lift and hold for as long as possible

Yep.

I forgot to recommend chalk, helps massive amounts for me. My hands aren;t sweaty but the bar just slips without it. Hands usually kill after a set as all the skin/calluses are crushed!

If your shoulders are hurting then are you letting them round? Keep them pulled back. Slight bend in the knees and lean slightly foward so the weight isn't resting on your thighs.

You can just hand from pull up bars too. One handed is much tougher than it looks especially if like me your grip strength isn't brilliant. RAW 1RM: 170KG, strapped 1RM = 205KG. Straps do make the whole lift much easier though asses what your goals are. Even if you aren't concerned with making your strength 100% functional in the grip aspect still train your grip even if you can't pull your maxes RAW.

Any magnesium carbonate will do. I have a 300gram pack which is supposed to be powdered but has lots of chunks in which I use as blocks. 300grams will last you ages. You'll make less mess with blocks/balls and it's easier to apply ime.

My good mate benched 225kg the other day RAW. Hes only 20, around 19-20 stone though. Not fat either tbh.

And tbh a lot of time yes in competition they leg drive so they have less distance to chest and use the power thru their body, my m8 doesn't do this.

God you always have to beat everyone dont you :p

Not good for the bone plates and growth over all having large forces on the skeleton when it's not fully formed or finished growing.

An impressive display none the less.

Is it? Have they done experiments on that?

They have, and it's more of a myth than anything else.
I don't think kids should be doing it but it certainly won't stunt their growth or anything like that if done properly.
What it can and mostly likely will lead to is injuries and these are will likely cause an effect on their development.

I think also with most children I see in our gym, sometimes I think it's a creche!, is they're there with their mates and most of the time 'ego trip'. Teaching the importance of form to *most* children is difficult as in my experience they just want to throw weight around.

My gym doesn't allow children under 16 on any freewight equipment. They have dumbells upto 10KG but that's it. Swiss balls, mats and machines. They still manage to get in the ******* way though!

OT: watching Rippetoe's DVD and there's some distracting eye candy, especially on the squat  :D

'That looks real good'

Sure does, hope she's legal...
