*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

How much are you guys lifting on military press at moment? I can only do 60kg for 5x5. EDIT: And I been stuck on that for like a year...EDIT: I think I prefer doing it seated with DB's aswell, can keep my back straight, better form...I usually do it seated aswell on same day, I do 28kg in each hand when I use DB's...do you think you should do one or the other rather then both on same day?

Oh btw have you guys tried wrack lockouts and board lockouts? I think those are awsome exercises to work your triceps, I can do 180kg on wrack lockouts and because I go straight into board loackouts after I usually do around 120kg on board lockouts and then go down to 60kg, I've done them for a while but not many people online seem to talk about em. The reason I started doing it in the first place was because I wasn't moving up on the bench and people online on bodybuilding.com said its prob coz my triceps were lacking and weak, and when I thought about it I felt over past 3 years I'd worked allot more on my biceps and less on my triceps, and I'd also slacked on shoulders, but now I always go hardcore on triceps and I've made shoulders my favourite workout.

What other people lift is irrelevant.

a lot of people don't have access to gyms with cages or equipment for board presses etc. Would love to try them though but have to make do without.

Well just making convo with that part, coz some people on here talking about their PB's.....and on bodybuilding.com allot of people talking about their top 4 lifts, not 3....and that 4th one being military press...so just thought I'd ask.

A lot of people's interpretation of a military press changes... I've heard people talk about them standing up, sat down, with back rests, with DBs, BBs, with legs apart, together, with a push press movement etc... So I pay little attention to the term "military" press these days.

I just call it shoulder press and state whether or not I'm standing sat, with or without DBs or a backrest.

FWIW I can DB press with shoulder rest over 40kg dumbells, so that 80kg combined. Standing I can pushpress 110kg. However it's largely irrelevant. I have particularly weak shoulders owing to an injury which is why I don't go particularly heavy. :(

Ok, fair doo's.

EDIT: How did you get the injury btw? You can still lift allot to say you were injured.

Oh yeah I've heard people call it shoulder press aswell. I think my rotator cuff in my left shoulder feels wierd sometimes like kinda unnatural, doesn't hurt or anything, just feels wierd, I can feel it when I do some shoulder exercises and also incline bench aswell sometimes, kinda hard to explain, was kinda thinking maybe I need to do some kind of exercise to make it stronger.

Dislocation of my shoulder playing rugby.

RC exercises are vital.

I got my brother to go and buy some weights for me for when I come home from Uni. I just went for a 50KG barbell kit as I'm just doing some light stuff over my Xmas break. He picked up some vinyl weights and I don't know if this is in my head because they're vinyl but they don't feel as heavy???

Anyone got some sort of idea of when I should start eating like a giant wombat? and not like a snail

Come down from 18.9st to 15.3st as of last weigh in, im thinking of around 14.2? Im 6ft 2 and looking to pack the muscle on, am I better off cutting really hard to get around 10% bf and then going for it? or trying to bulk for lean mass before then incase my skin is too stretched.

Also anyone know anything half decent to add into my diet to get my fibre up, I dont eat much fruit apart from bananas, and im open to eating anything.

Dj_Jestar, that's the one.

Imagine what we'll be wearing come 2050? looking back at 2010 and laughing at us in our seemingly 'normal' gym attire ;)

I think what the girls wear these days in the gym is sexeh! My gym has a big cardio section full of girls and they wear the tightest skin tight sports clothing you can buy and your eyes are like 0 0 ....LOL...It kinda puts me off my workout, a distraction but a good distraction I guess, actually no, bad distraction! haha

As stated its due to the size.

Vinyl is good to start out with really if your a little low on cash (like me) but eventually they get annoying due to the size of them :p

Aghhhh...I really cant wait to start training again :(

Indeed, I can only fit 20KG on a dumbell so they're pretty useless :( Will have to stick to using the barbell.

Don't think my gym are thinking on the same lines as it's clients!

They've had a 12 days of christmas promo running. Attend 12 times between two dates and recieve a free present on your 10th visit and a free entry into a prize draw for a x-mas hamper on your 12th. They weren't in yesterday so I got my 'present' today which turns out to be a tube of 12 of 'Tesco Finest Cookies - belgian milk chocolate & hazelnut, belgian white chocolate and cranberry and belgian plain chocolate all butter'.

I'm not sure what I was expecting but perhaps something a little healthier?! lol I'm not complaining, well I am because my cardio today is now more than cancelled out but hey free cookies :)

Doesn't make up for the pants service on reception and constantly loose dumbells though, bah! humbug! :p

lol might as well have given you Maccy D's vouchers! Although, you know, if you don't want them...I guess I could take them off your hands :p
