*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

Just pop to the toilet and eat somethin dead quick. If you are very underweight as you say you are make sure you get those meals in.

Mixed nuts are very high in calories 600cals per 100grams. 100grams of nuts isn't a lot! These could be a good solution to just pop a few in every hour.

Well my daily eating is hitting around 2700 cals. I am so skinny, almost anorexic and used to just spend whole days studying and my nutrition would be rubbish. Past few days have been good and ive done well preparing stuff for the next few days, but I am scared of friday, for as long as this year has started at uni I have been in fridays doing labs for my thesis from 9 - 7 and then the pub afterwards to blow off steam from the week (pretty much my only night out drinking). Its hard to get meals down consistently.

Im also worrying im eating too much bread (5 brown slices a day) and I need to man up and have bigger breakfasts, but I think I'll get there!

If its good quality wholemeal/granary/seeded bread then it will probably be OK although if it was me I'd try and cut down a little. Be careful with some breads labelled as brown as they are probably just as bad for you as white.

My body is very sensitive to carbs in general so I try to avoid bread as much as possible.

Honestly, if you are really struggling with solid foods just make up a few oat and whey shakes and use neck them throughout the day.

Dark Chocolate.

Good/bad? Obviously it's chocolate so it's not going to be great but as an alternative to milk or white?

For some reason I get really strange cravings, I can beat them and I know I can as I do time and time again. Whilst on my cut I quite fancy a little treat but if it's going to be too damaging then I won't bother.

I very rarely eat chocolate but for some reason I feel like gobbling mass amounts. If it's not chocolate its bruschetta, cheese etc quite random stuff.

Tbh if your diet is good and you are training hard enough a block of chocolate every week is not going to hurt. Not like you are cutting down for a competition or something.

You at herts uni btw?

This is what I was thinking. I've been on a trim/cut diet now for almost 6 weeks. Really low carb for the last two and just fancy a bit of a treat other than nuts or humous. A quick google returns the higher the cocoa % the better, also seems the higher the % the lower the hydrogenated/saturated fats and calories too.

Unfortunatley not. Lincoln for me. Though I have been and had a look around. Close by?

I love 80% chocolate. It's actually not a bad carb to take in, and has a good dopamine release which is always welcomed! :D You absolutely must treat yourself - there's no point in life otherwise!

Paz, how's the knee?

I don't personally like it but if I did I wouldn't worry about munching on some :)

Had a good leg session today, mainly due to weighing myself before hand (with my jacket on) at:

I'll see what I can find when I shop on Saturday.

Nice weight Dun. Finished my bulk around that and am now 6 weeks into my cut, with the last two weeks more serious, fast approaching 84KG :)

Will cutting down on carbs and keeping my calorie intake the same result on me loosing weight?

The last thing i want to do is lose weight but lately i have a very bloated belly like looks like a beer belly on me :( and i also my body fat seems to be increasing really quite frustrating as im trying to get bigger not fat

Thanks mate. You know what to do then :p

Yeah. Get fat :p I'm ending my conditioning session soon I've dropped lots of BF but only dropped 1kg or so, so I'm pretty happy with that! :D

Are you expending enough calories? Are you trying to pack on muscle? Packing on muscle and staying lean is possible but difficult and takes patience. What's your diet like? What is your training like? Cutting carbs is an easy way of minimising the storage of fat, however it's still very much a key of how much work you do in the gym and how much you're eating, and if you're eating the right things. You can have the best diet in the world, but still get fat if you're not doing the right work, or if you're eating too much etc... Give us a bit more info. :)

Nice one Benny. You stopping at 84 or just going by the mirror?

Cheers.

A bit of both. It depends how easily it falls off really. I've got till March 26th to cut then I'm home for easter and taking a different approach to my diet/training.

I've always had a bit of a high b/f % but have carried it very well. So I'm hoping to drop all of that. I've lost a load of fat off my legs, back and stomach, not that there was a great deal there but I can physically 'pinch' so much less.

Strength is the same if not up a wee bit. Upper body measurements haven't really suffered more than expected which is probaly just the fat not being included within the tape.

82/83KG would be nice and would put my strength to BW ratio up nicely and bring that double bodyweight squat into reach. Vascularity and striations are on the up too. Upper and mid abs are visible, only a short while longer to go!

A quick picture from yesterdays session of chest & back finishing with some arm isolation in the form of preacher curls. The wrist wrap was because i'd jarred it two days ago somehow and was benching heavy with FatGripz which are quite tough on the wrists.

Veins on the bicep can't really be seen as it was a forearm pose. FatGripz are amazing for forearm pump. Especially when stalling on 3" thick handled cable curls

Finished your bulk now? or are you just coasting until your shoulder behaves?

4 weetabix, with one pint of milk

breakfats will also include either an avcado pear or a kiwi, followed by a bannana, greek yougurt which i add blueberries too and some acaia honey, i will also have 300ml of vegeatble juice

meal

cottage 125g cottage cheese with somesort of oat cake, pint of milk

Dependen tof whether i go to the gym or not depends whether i take a postworkout shake with whey and oats

I also take BCAA's

Training is ok i guess, though im also feeling tired or lethargic and have to fight through a mental battle to get me to the gym or eve out of bed sometimes, but then there are the gym sessions which are incredible

I was doing a two day full body split but more recently gone onto a three day spilt see bhow it goes i guess, im still fine tuning and trying to learn a lot

Cheers.

Forearm looking big and vascular there mate  Cutting is very much down to the mirror rather than the scales in my mind.
Personally I don't really 'bulk' just eat more to grow on the scales and grow into it if that makes sense. Currently I'm the heaviest I've been but still got my abs, and acceptable striations, vascularity etc so not planning to cut down at the moment.
I'm starting arm training again on Friday so I might try a few sets with the mega bar :p

Arf, ok but annoying. Think I'm just going to give up on heavy squatting as its the only thing that gives me pain. Just gonna start deadlifting twice a week (heavy and high reps days) and do leg extensions/presses etc for direct leg work.

Thanks.

Yeah I deffinatley agree that the mirror rules.

That's going to be my approach once this cut is finished. My B/F levels needed dropping anyway. So any cutting periods from now on will be to trim off 8-9 weeks worth as opposed to tackling stubborn fat from an indulgent childhood.
