*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

I love DOMs - it's good pain. I also like the lactic acid burn that's telling my body that it's being pushed.

Lots of Vit C, anti oxidants (green leafy veg as well works very well), and good proteins with decent amino acid profiles will minimise DOMs.

I'm getting this, about 300 grams of veg a day, 1 gram of vitamin c from a supplement aside that, 4 fish oil caps, roughly 150+ grams of protein a day from whey but also chicken and red meat, yet still it's horrible.

Hopefully it will get better, I did expect that it will be bad as I hadn't trained legs for a while and not stepped in a gym for a month, thus starting GVT was a bit of a masochistic idea.:o

Thanks for the explanations.

Just right in my upper chest just below the collarbone and also deep almost underneath the 'mass' of the rest of the pecs. No pain, just DOMS I think. Bit of tendon inflamation as I was coming quite far back with slow negatives. Basically feels exactly like GVT did!

I might work some step ups into my leg days and see how I get on. Do you do these in a powercage? This sound like they're working in a similar fashion to one leg squats but obviously with a different center of gravity and more core/stability involvement. Would you say you're stepping up about a foot or so? (roughly?)

Just to clarify once you've completed the rep with weight loaded leg now fully extended, you then bring the unloaded leg up to 90 degrees infront of you, so are standing on the box one leg effectively?

Just want to clarify! I think this might be very good for addressing my weak glutes. Reminds me of taking 2 or 3 stairs at a time with a single leg, something I strugle with when pushing solely with leg on the higher step.

Bang on about bringing the leg up. It really hits your core and glutes hard. But is fantastic for quad development and to a certain extent hams too.

The eccentric motion recruits more muscle fibres and as such would give you a greater amount of DOMs. So that makes complete sense.

Cristi, as above, if doing GVT, your negatives will be 4s (or at least they should be!) and if you haven't trained legs in a while, it will undoubtedly cause a lot of trauma to the muscle fibres (but also potentially tendons too) - no wonder you're feeling it. :)

Go swimming and eat lots of fish oils, maybe think of taking some EEAs along with vit c they really help clear up DOMs (almost over night for me!). :)

now you tell me, I just ordered 1 kg of BCAAs earlier this week, got it today. I didn't even dare to taste it, the smell is horrible, but as I anticipated that, I also bought a 00 size capping kit. :)
Did 48 caps earlier, easy to use and makes you feel like a drug dealer. :D

When is the best time to take them? I'm thinking 30 min before the workout and immediately after, among with the whey and creatine. Does that sound good?

Guys, an odd question this, but does anyone get any trouble with their man-bits post-jogging sometimes? I've been getting some cramps of late and the only thing I could really link it to is through probably causing myself a slight mischief whilst running. I think I may have to invest into some looser clothing really. It's just odd as I've never really had this problem before. I woke up a couple of weeks ago and literally felt like I've been kicked in my gibblets; it's either the gym itself or the clothing I think. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue?

Hi all.

Where do you guys buy all your supplements from? Not talking about pump or 'gym related' supplements. Just after general everyday tablets like multivitamins, cod liver oil, fish oil caps etc. And if possible a place that sells devil's claw.

I buy most of my stuff through myprotein but they don't have a massive range. Just somewhere cheap where you can buy in bulk would be great.

Thanks.

Bulk Supplements Direct have tripple strength Omega 3 capsules with higher concentrations of EPA/DHA. 500 caps for £26. 125 days worth which is around a 5.1/2 /6 month supply at 4 per day.

Edit: I too used to use simply supplements and then realised for fish oils BSD worked out better at the time not sure what deals SS have at the moment. However I can voucher for their EPIC delivery times.

simply supplements used to be good value when they had their triple strength caps but theyve gone now.

The BSD fish oils are :

33/22 ratio of EPA/DHA

So in a 1000mg cap I'm not sure what it works out as exactly but it's considerably more.(I remember reading 330mg/220mg somewhere)

Don't forget also eating plenty of fish will also give you what you need too!

Yup that'll be 330mg and 220mg.

So if you have a 1000mg with 18% and 12% it'll be 180mg / 120mg, ergo the ones Benny posted are better. :)

Dosage depends on body size, muscle mass etc... but also more importantly your diet. However there is a lot of debate on how much you should take. Some say no more than 2-3g per day some say it's fine to take up to 10g and more. I personally take 6g. Do your research, understand how fish oils (DHA/EPA) work and how they interact with your body and make your mind up from there. I of course know, but you need to make up your own mind owing to the polar opposed opinions on this. :)
