*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

Sounds similar to me! It's all about being a big ****er this year, but also a strong one. I'm feeling particularly puny at the moment, though my strength is good - I think it's a bit of body dismorphia kicking in. :(

Im feeling very small and crap still, but then i always feel the same. I wont think I am big until im 20st+. Always look in the mirror and think "looking crap". Could be a good thing though as it motivates me to get bigger/better.

We all feel like that from time to time I think it's only natural. As long as you have your times during training or just after where you are pleased with what you see etc then it's fine.

If you're not happy 100% of the time then I don't think it's healthy.

Obviously we all have our own ideals of our 'perfect' bodies which we all strive for. Weather or not we will reach them is unknown. If one of us is lucky enough to then there are other things to aim for such as strength, enduranced etc.

Although if you're not fussed by a particular aspect such as strength, endurance or aesthetics and only interested in one thing and you do reach your 'perfect physique/this goal or target' then god help you because you've nothing else to look foward to!:p

My main goal is to obtain a mentality where diet and exercise is an integral part of my life for the foreseeable future, rather than aspects that I have to concentrate on and actively will myself to adhere to.

My other main goal is to have a decent physique for the beach in Cyprus, my summer holiday this year.

THIS!!!!!! and THIS (but less so here)

- Crack on with the big daddies (Squat + DL) starting next week.
- Actually do something with these weird leg things I walk with, not noticed them before.
- As Robbie has said let it become part of your everyday life rather than a forced habit.
- Get up to 14.5-15 stone by the late spring (14 stone exactly now).
- From Mid-May, cut to remove the fat i have never been able to get rid of (probably 18-20% currently).
- Chat to the polish lads in the gym only in polish and get some tips.

Well suppose its time to post in this thread. :)

I've been reading the gym rats thread since last year and its motivated me to workout more and with a rigourous structured diet. Thanks to you guys for the motivation and the knowledge you impart, its done me a world of good and i'm continuing it into this year with new goals. :)

Since may last year I have managed to add 2" to my chest and lose 2" to my waist. Must admit the dietary information you guys share is awesome, it certainly helps.

This year I want to continue as I have been, no real goals set as yet but i'll think of some no doubt. :)

I'll pitch in. I have made it my mission to bulk this year and add some lean muscle mass. I have already sorted my diet out and am 7 days in. Is a little uncomfortable sometimes eating so much but I am already getting to the point where, if I don't eat for 3 hours, I become hungry again.
I have joined the local gym to help with my training but I will also be doing the big compound exercises at home. I am starting right at the bottom and my intention is to build the weight slowly but steadily with good technique.
I also enjoy running however so I will be doing some cardio sessions including interval training.

I am 82kg's and 6'1" and my goals for 2010 are:
BW the big three.
Beat my 2009 pb at the 5k distance.
Compete in a 10k race.
Beat my great south run time (10mi)

Wish me luck! :p

So what are everyone's goals for 2010?

Get my diet and workout bang on and stick to it. I only started trying to lose weight in the middle of November, and although I've changed a lot I still have cheat meals on occasion. Nevertheless my weight has dropped nearly 4kgs and my strength has gone up plenty. But I'm worried the loss will plateau soon and I'll have to really knuckle down to get everything just right.

As for numerical goals, dunno! I'm at 125kg now (started 128-9) and my first goal is 100kg. If I can get to this by the end of summer I'll be happy and work from there. I have no idea what my physique etc. will be like at that weight as I've always been obese for my height/age so I can really imagine if I need to go lower yet.

Errrm strength up and up, I've gone from 40-50 bench so far and would like to keep going. Back strength needs a lot of work along with forearm grip/stamina.

So lets say, 100kg weigh in by Autumn .

Well... it is a muscle, so best thing to do is exercise it as much as possible! ;)

What a mature and restrained answer :D

Wang Wand Pull-downs are now on the cards, which will have to wait for the weekend though. Viewing a car tomorrow so will only be able to squeeze in some HIIT :(

5 11, 84kg. Want to gain a bit of weight to put me in the 13.5stone range. Looking at lats, upper back, chest and arms as I think my legs are a bit larger than them proportionately.

General better lifts. Would quite like 30s or 35kg (at a mix of 22.5 and 25 atm) per hand DB bench. Maybe 150kg deadlift.. not sure if that would be max or reps yet. (repping 110, max 130 so far).

Rugby perhaps. getting an MRI for my shoulder problem so we'll see what they say about it.

General fitness.

grip strength increases

Pretty much the same for me, but push for more with the DB press. I'm currently on 24kg x2 and would like to get up to the 36kg x2 region by the end of the year. That would only involve going up the dumbell scale (DB multiples of 2 in gym) by one every 2 months which should be easily achievable.

Although I'm trying to put on some size, hitting the HIIT and spining hard in the late spring is more important. Burning off the uni drinking gutlovehandlewings Ive been carrying for the past 2 years is very important, especially as the muscles will be more visible.

Getting back into some sport is also on the cards, but playing 7 a side footie with work always leads to injuries. Not just myself, but many other people inc some fractures.

Well I'm relieved I've got some hardcore DOMs at the moment. I know they don't represent extra growth or muscle development, but it's such a nice feeling. I hadn't done high reps of heavy squats for a while - ok it's not as heavy as I can go but for 8-10 reps below // I'm chuffed. Surprisingly my back is suffering from them, even then it was only pull ups with 5kg for 8-10 reps but with good tempo.

I'm REALLY starting to get my strength back, I'll be back to repping 180 squats and benching 130-140 for reps in no time at this rate.

You know when you just feel good about your training? I have many moments when I feel decidedly "meh". Whilst I don't "feel" like I'm doing well, the numbers speak for themselves really. I just wish I could train more and not have to go to work :p

I just wish my gym had better equipment and more dumbells as it's starting to become a limiting factor for me now. :(
