The 2011 Chilli growing thread - it's scorching!

Last time I got it online with seeds and a few other things, so postage was ok. Not sure where I'll get it this time. It was half strength once a week while growing. First sign of a flower bud, went upto full strength once a week.

So that's one feed, once a week... as in on one occasion when you water, it will have feed with it and on all other occasions it is just normal water? Sounds like a really reterded question I know.

If anyone would like to catch up on what im growing and would like to see todays update (lots of pics) then pop over to myfolia and see my 2 journals for today.

In short, all doing ok, peppers need repotting when i can get round to it, probs 8-9 in pots iirc.

Apaches doing super well and have loads of flowers coming out every few days and new chillis growing with 1 of em so far at 2inch ish long :). Feeding half strength tomatorite. Jalapenos or bells arnt fruiting yet, there still a little small maybe thats why or the potting issue. Look healthy tho.

Jumbo bell pepper has 5 or so flowers and loads of buds still to open and 2 or 3 jumbo bell peppers growing now, with a pic of the biggest so far.

Is it warm enough to put them outside yet? The 8 I kept are beginning to take over my room and they've over 2 feet tall now!

I think it should be fine to put them out at night now. I have all mine in my greenhouse and they are growing really well. i did read that it should be above 10oc, but it has dropped to 7oc once or twice with no problems.

I didn't have much luck with the ones I put outside last year, they became infested with caterpillars, to the point that i couldn't be bothered to keep removing them. There were hundreds of them!

Let me know if you find any bargains :D. Think i'll stick to tomorite for now, but might up the dosage to full strength on a fe and see what happens.

I have afew NuMex Twight this year. They are starting to flower but the plants are still fairly small. If I nip the flower heads off will the plants put more engery into growning, and yeald more fruit later in the season?

5litres for £21 on eBay seems the best, can match that price in some shops as well, but then can't use paypal.

I put mine outside today for the first time, apart from the Jalapenos, they are all covered in flowers and flower buds so I figured its time to put them out. A few of them are over 30" tall from the soil to the top leaves! It also means I can see out of my computer room window again!

Excuse the dirt floor, my garden isn't normally like that.. I've had a busy day clearing the ground and digging down so I can build my new patio! :)

Put mine outside today for all of 30 seconds. Far far to windy, I didn't dare leave them.

Its typical, it was bright, sunny and hot all day yesterday so I figured I'd put my chillies outside. During the night we had torrential rain and heavy wind and it snapped one of my plants!

You guys need a greenhouse :). Last year I was forever carting my tomato and chilli plants back and forth as soon as it started to get windy. Its great being able to just stick them all in the greenhouse and leave them.

Just have to make sure to open the door on a hot day so they dont fry.

Woaaa you're joking! That's unlucky mate. Is it recoverable, got any chance of growing chillies still?

Its only one of the parts where its branched out at the top so its about half of it gone, still lots of flowers on the other half though!

Once my patio is sorted I'll look into some sort of mini green house..

Did you try to graft it back on as in put it back and use some special tape i think u can buy which helps heal snapped off parts of plants.

Not sure if it works with chilli plants mind u its just i heard you can do that with some types.

Also heres a good source of info regarding the weather for the UK.

Am a bit worried about mine after looking at this thread, they are tiny! (Scotch Bonnets, Japapenos, Cherry Bombs and Cayene. I thought they were doing so well, but most of the others in this thread are 4x the size. Any thoughts? They were all grown from seed, and germinated in March:
