The 2011 Chilli growing thread - it's scorching!

topgun06, What size pots do you have them in? I was trying to keep my Scotch bonnets smaller so that I could keep them on my kitchen window, but they are ripening and are tiny. Think it could be due to the 3l pots. Maybe should have used 5l?

But saying that, my Naga is in a 10l tub and it doing the exact same thing. Anyone know any reason all my chillies are so small?

I'm not quite sure but I'll have a check for you tomorrow.

The smaller scotch bonnets in the pics were sown at the same time but have been kept in smaller pots. They took longer to produce flowers but there are now millions of them compared to the bonnets in the larger pots. They are much more compact and easier to handle too. But we will see what sorta crop they produce in the end in comparison.

Does anyone have any idea why my Tabasco flower isn't fruiting? Its always covered in flowers but they never seem to fruit into chillies. All my other plants are absolutely covered in fruit now but not this one. If I look at the flowers, the pollen doesn't seem to be soft and come off like the other plants, it seems harder.

Yay, my capillary matting managed to water my plants while I was away for a week!

Plants have grown a fair bit, and one of my bonnets is now a nice bright red :D

What is the green (also fat red one) chilli type I have growing.

Im confused, I thought I was growing Cayene & Jalapeño & Habeneros. But I have 4 different types.

Habeneros I posted in previous pics and I haven't picked them off yet.

Ops forgot to update you all, basically about 10 days ago or so now both of my chilli plants stopped flowering... (the no pollen useless flowers). But they came back in force about 3 days or so later, but all of these new flowers on both plants seem quite fertile. Got about 12 chilli's on my Jalapeno now and for 3 so far on my Scotch bonnet.

Is it normal for them to flower twice with the first lot being useless, or could it have been brought on by the weather?

Anyway thanks for the advice a few of you gave.

Still looks like Cayenne to me... I don't know.

It's just that my Cayennes aren't particularly thin like the one in your previous photo but more like the ones in the photo immediately above. Leaves look similar too.

Hey guys are any of these ready to pick yet. Think the small round one thats going red might be just about ready I think thats the Tepin chilli

Anyone? :)

I bought some Bhut Jolokias and Dorset Nagas from Tescos.

How best should I preserve the seeds so I can use them next year ?

When I dried seeds last year I removed and put onto a piece of kitchen roll then placed on top of my router for about a fortnight. Then sealed into an airtight bag and placed near router for some constant warmth all winter.

Worked a treat
