*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

There is no best routine, the earlier people realise that in their lifting career the better for them.

Consistency and damn hard work is what matters most

To be honest, once I can 1RM 100 for Bench, I'll be happy. Beyond that I'll be wanting to work much more on explosiveness, or even repping 100 and doing it for volume, but above that I have no huge incentive to go for anything larger.

That said, for those who want to, and do achieve greater, all respect to them.

kd

You say that now...........

I said that earlier about being happy with a 200 dead, now I'm getting closer to it I feel like I'll be happier with a 230.

there comes a point tho where i think you will be happy, the weights ahead of me are so intimidating, much more so than the earlier barriers were, i think ill run up against what im 'happy' with soonish

I know I will be happy with 200, as I'll be stronger than most of the people I know (IRL) but wether I'll be able to stop chasing bigger numbers is another thing.

Anyone that's lifting the kind of weights you do won't lose interest overnight so unless you break you back or pick up a lengthy injury like death I'd wager you'll continue to push yourself as far as you possibly can.

Same goes for anyone that starts from scratch and works their way up to their first set of goals. Might be a 100kg bench, squat or deadlift but by the time you hit that goal you've probably been lifting long enough to not just be able to give up on progression and make do.

Even then, it's hard to lose interest. :D

You'll just start again and keep going.

That's very true, I doubt I'll ever stop going to the gym or stop trying to lift heavier. I just have no intentions of it ever being more of a hobby.

I also don't have the dedication that some others do.

I've been stuck on 80 bench for a while whilst my other stuff has been increasing. Regardless I'm going for a PB today. 85, see how it is and then maybe 90 if I can.

I'll only feel content when I have lifted 300kg, either from the floor or on my back.

This is madness, but it makes sense to me.

After fapping about for a few weeks, I managed to up my DB Bench to 20KGs today, couldn't do a full set of 10 but did about 5 sets of 6 instead.

I am guessing if I hack at it I can eventually do the full sets and need to just push on to up the weights?

Lol haven't you only been training for about a month, dude you have to have patience in this game :)

If you keep going the way you are you will get to moan about being stuck at weights that most people dream of.

For me I am aiming to be in that 2% that UE was talking about. I am just about to start my third year of training and I am hoping for strong progress, we shall see :)

I started going gym in October. I have been benching from then till now. However I squatted once in November I think. And have only started doing it all the time recently, also only deadlifted for the first time about a month ago. So yeah I understand the progress in those two. But my bench has been at 80 since about early December. I just struggle with bench.

You will get past it, maybe review how your hitting your bench training, chest is in I the hardest areas to develop so expect progress there to be slower. Also 3-4 months in the gym is no time at all, so don't let it mentally affect you because bench is getting harder. Your not even close to the hard times :)
Consistency is key, if you keep smashing away every week, and pay attention to your shortfalls you will do well. 99% of people would be over the moon to have your lifts after 3 months.

ye cola....loosk fine. Drops the carrots for greens, have rice at lunchtime (more) and potatoe at nights. On non traiing days i would maybe ditch the carbs at evening meal and have some green salad and add some fats equal to the carb intake. Im also not sure about weetabix though...lol. Oats would be my first choice, but maybe weetabix ok, not sure. At the end of the day its about cals out v's cals in. If you a big lad..then 2000ish should make u loose weight. But you might need more for your workout days depending on how hard you train. Im a shortass :) 75Kg ish and would struggle with just 2000 per day on training days personally, not the 1st week...but after a week or two. You can offet the avergae by having slightly more in traing days and less on rest days.

edit..you could probably do with a little more fats, nuts, peanut buter, oilve oil etc. 30ish is toooo low
