*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

I'd need to sort my diet out first, to make it properly worth it otherwise i'd end up looking like Glen Ross (in his strongman days, not his bodybuilding days!) lol

He is the daddy afterall! I myself am a firm believer in a strongman being in shape. Whilst i cant refute the dominance of Big Z ill always have more reverance for a jon pall sigmassun or a pudzian than i could a capes or shaw.

It is unnecessary to be carrying excess functionless bulk, an archaic ideal of strongmen of the past. Its unhealthy, it serves no purpose and obviously it looks crap.

Completely, these days there is no need for it at all. The more functionally fit will rule the sport eventually, its getting that way already for the majority, additional fat will only be detrimental :)

exactly. look at the main past winners, most are smaller more mobile men. It's only this last few years where the absolute giants have taken over!

Anybody here get petechial hemorrhage with some of their large effort lifts? I've noticed it more than usual - but i guess that could also be down to stress too. To many it's a badge of honour - but just curious if anyone else notices it for themselves.

No, but I slowly let out my breath for each big weight rep.

Looking at what happens to blood pressure during big single/triple RMs was enough to convince me that even a slight 'exhale' for each rep was enough to reduce peak blood pressure by around a third, so - in my head - enough to not rupture too many blood vessels...

I don't get it every time, but certainly on big RMs especially when the bar is moving sllllloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowly - I have noticed it.

I think you're right though slightly exhalation should alleviate the chance of it happening, I just noticed it at work, but the bathroom lighting is different to at home so didn't notice it at home. Just a few red specks on the face nothing major.

the google stats for petechial haemorrhage just flew up!

Yeah ive had it forearms and thighs have both been seen to haemorrhage on big lifts, along with my mouth bleeding and sometimes my nose, meh, just means i got too much blood innit. Im too healthy yo.

First time visiting a physio today, as I wanted an MOT of myself after getting into this weightlifting malarky in June. Learnt a lot of interesting stuff, my rhomboids are underdeveloped relative to the rest of me, my glutes need work, there's anterior pelvic tilt which needs sorting out, shoulder/neck tightness pulling them forward, deep core strength lacking - look forward to fixing it all! As expected also, my pecs are super tight which is part of the reason I find low bar squatting super hard. Lot of stiffness too - both laughed when my back went crack in 3 places. Feels good man.

She was very pleased to see that unlike most young men, I haven't been a broseph with completely over-developed shoulders and I was pretty aware of my own issues and was looking to work on stuff before it developed into a problem. £35 a time though, will need to be a monthly thing I think, while I work my issues out. Good thing the company I work for is predicted to hit it's targets for bonus/pay rises.

blood from nose, from lips. blood shot eyes. **** myself. no spots or blood spots on body though :D
