*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

Well we was talking about it today to someone who can bench 120kg and he said hypertrophy must have kicked in at around 25 reps. He said you could do it but wanted to know how long you've been lifting and are you he including weight of the bar too?
I don't know what this means, but I enjoyed reading it.

I only did 24 reps once, damn 1 rep away from gains.
The consequences will never be the same.

Maybe he said something else but I think he was talking about something happening past 25 reps. Forget that anyways I'm just amazed at 60kg @ 56 reps for the size of the guy (saw his video). But is this including the bar weight as some people include that in the total weight?

Why is this such a big deal to you...

Because I'm interested??

Most likely boredom.

No idea if it includes the bar, he could be a 110kg bench press monster for all we know.

You're meant to include the weight of the bar...

I find most people don't include the weight of the bar, I never do. If he does that means it's 20kg lighter than I thought... when people say 60kg isn't a lot I'm talking about having 2x30kg on each side of the bar.

Are you supposed to include the weight of your arms as well?

lol yeah and don't forget to divide by 9.81.

Yes and don't forget it's easier if you're doing it in the southern hemisphere it's even easier.

Almost everyone includes the bar weight.

Well that just doesn't make any sense.

"What are you lifting?"

"60kg"

"Is that the total weight in your hands?"

"Durrr, no."

Fuarrr. That feel when you thibk your squats are triple digits, only to find out theyre not as you included the bar.

Don't be silly, everyone knows you don't have lift the weight of the bar, only the plates count...

I always thought it was a bit cheap including the bar, still not going to include it.

That's up to you but remember to clarify and/or mentally adjust if you ever want to compare weight lifted with someone else. I don't think I know of anyone (apart from you and your friend) who doesn't include the weight of the bar - it's not as if the bar is weightless and you are also lifting it so you might as well count it.
