*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

No, sticking your head in the sand is not the way to go. Being aware of things like cancer is important. However, I agree with the notion of being psychologically content being a better way to behave and better way to live life rather than being negative and a hypochondriac.

however, one shouldn't ignore the potential risks associated with cancers.

Another good reason to do exercise!

I was being facetious. I agree with your point. Wash your fish oil down with some tomato juice and you'll be fine. :)

Though I was a big baby so I don't need to worry... later life illness is all linked to birthweight don't you know!

EDIT: this post was meant to be with the FF post i quoted above!

So you were already Arnie, fresh out the womb.

Whaaaaaaaaat? I haven;t even heard this one, explain!

I was a big baby! Like 10lbs of baby

I don't know the specifics... it was in the sciency bit they do in the metro (so take that anyway you wish). I think the jist was that low birth weight can be a factor in adult illness but I'm not sure which illnesses. I imagine a bit if googling will bring up some articles.

That is a decent size. Aren't you small now though?

I thought you were - but I thought I'd be a bit pedantic anyway :p

Sounds good to me. But I though cardio would help you lose weight?

The reason a lot of people shun cardio is because as a weight loss tool it is largely a waste of time. Diet manipulation is a far more effective way of losing weight.

If you're going to do cardio do it because you enjoy it and/or for cardiovascular fitness. If you want to lose weight, do it through your diet and focus on the weight lifting as your primary exercise.

Women are the biggest face-palm cases when it comes to cardio. They'll spend 2 hours in the gym, probably burn off less than 500kcal and then go and drink a 500kcal drink at Costa with their friends - meaning the 2 hours in the gym achieved nothing other than increased cardiovascular fitness. I guess you could apply the same example to lads with pints only I don't know any blokes serious about getting lean who would spend 2 hours in the gym and then go and drink 5 pints at the pub.

I've seen this countless of times.

I enjoy using the jump rope for 10 minutes after my weightlifting, but jogging, running, is boring to me.

Following on from earlier on, I went to the gym tonight and did the following;
Lat Pull Down 3 x 8 @ 35.5kg
Barbell bicep curls @ 20kg + Bar
Dead lift @ 30kg + Bar
One arm hammer curl @ 12.5kg
Bent over one arm @12.5kg

10min on Cycle
1000m on Rower
10min on Treadmill

Followed GordyR's guide basically for Wednesday and added some light cardio in to warm up and warm down.

There is 100% no squat rack or leg press which makes me think that stronglifts is out of the question?
Which is a shame because I had hoped to start it following on from the advice on here.
People may have missed this.

You absolutely did not follow Gordy's guide.

You almost curled as much as you deadlifted, and you rowed basically the same weight that you curled...

You need to re-assess the definition of resistance training. It sounds like you turned up to the gym, span your wheels for a bit and then did some cardio.

Well I did what weight I could in each of those exercises for 3 sets of 8 reps. I have read through his guide and that is what I thought I had to do.

What should I have done?
