*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

I've never been able to get on with straps for deads just doesn't feel right to me.

Same, I struggle to even get them tight enough to benefit out of them anyway. I just stick to my barehands, chalk normally but I seem to have left that in some box somewhere..

I read an article/watched a video by Christian Thibadeau many moons ago, obviously each to our own, but he was strapped up for snatches to save stressing his CNS unnecessarily.

I suppose reducing the central drive required of the CNS in relation to the hands (forearm muscles) by using straps would help this to a degree...

However, cranking the motor cortex up for a near-max snatch/CnJ will screw the lifter over regardless of straps/raw. Even doing so for a 70-85% drive is murder.

So I'm guessing our Canadian is doing so to continue/build his routine based on something like:

- Snatch (most complex movement first and all that...);
- Deadlift/RDL/whatever...

So doesn't want to exhaust his grip before going on to the exercises that will further isolate muscles for growth/strength.

I think. :D.

Why are people's grip struggling with BOR? Presumably you deadlift a lot more than you BOR, so surely that's when you are going to have grip issues...

... This is assuming that you aren't doing silly long sets.

If you've done a shed load of other exercises prior to BOR's? more so fatigue than lack of strength.

For example I do 3 sets of rest-paused chins or pull ups to failure/just short of failure, followed by a 60-90 second +20KG static hang. Then I deadlift. Grip pls respond. Straps usually come out midway through my working set.

With dumbells it is a major issue, if not the only thing stopping me from lifting quite a bit more.
