*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

I have the same problem, for my height I should really be in the 105 class. I can stomache the idea of being ~93kg lean ish, but 12kg more than that is not going to happen!

Try being in my world. Being 5'9 and trying to do strongman is a nightmare. Some of the loading platforms are silly high :(

Yeah I've only just started using proper bench technique and it has gone up a bit already, but I'm still working on it getting it right. Routine is pretty much just SS.

A
Squat
Bench
Rows
Chinups

B
Light squats
OHP
Deadlift
Pullups (might change to dips)

How about trying to superset pull ups with dips - it's a killer, but worth it!

I was watching Ilya Ilin (guy has possibly the greatest technique I've seen and unbelievable speed) and suddenly noticed the plates looked quite big next to him... turns out he - and the rest of his weight class - are about 5'7-9. Step up to 5'11/6'0 and there be monsters...

Inb4 moaning/excuses. :D

God yeah, his technique is amazing. The speed to get under the bar is amazing and something that I'm lacking in completely!

You should always try and do an antagonist movement IMO especially with shoulders. However, I've always been of the view you should try and do more pulling movements than pushing.

Given the amount of exercises possible with pulling vs. pushing, I'd say it's almost just circurstance. :)

Bench + OHP

versus:

Cleans, deadlift, BOR, chins...

Only thing missing from that as a routine is squats. And you're done. :)

No idea, but from my circle of friends in the game they've always recommended it. Besides, you need a strong back for a strong chest. You need strong/big tries for big arms etc... :)

Yep yep, strong back will give you a stronger bench :)

So get those barbell rows up with a decent weight :)

I think I want to learn Pendlay Rows rather than BB Rows at some point though. :)

What's to learn about 'Pendlay' rowing? Just do it with the advice ice provided. :)

Hang snatches are a killer on the lats I find. And i'm only doing them light :(

Yes. I'd never really noticed lat DOMS until my new routine... and I'm still "lightweight, baby..."

I done a 75 mile cycle yesterday, is it wise to train chest tonight? took bit of a battering yesterday holding on

Yes just think about what you can do and do your normal percentage lower for reps. Don't think of the weight as a number, think of it as a percentage of your max for the day.

So if you were planning 80% 1rm for 5 reps and 1rm would normally be 100kg, but as your a bit tired its more like 80kg today, do 80% of 80kg.
