*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

Epiv comment of epicness:

One of the guys in the gym who does the standard "chest, triceps, biceps" routine asked me - whilst I was snatching - if there was a machine I could use for snatches. :D

I wanted to laugh very hard. :)

mrthingyx, I had a funny one this week also. Had my band wrapped around a machine doing some shoulder stretches, when this polish guy comes over and asks me about it. He then asks if he can try it out as he wants to get one. So he sticks the band round his head and starts doing neck curls!!

Machine for snatching? Smith machine of course! lol

During the course of the discussion, I politely conceded this could theoretically work, but would be so dangerous in practice that it would be crazy.

Did you want to cry at the time? :D

He's a funny chap. Comes in dressed like the 80s and brings a full size wall clock which he uses to time his rest times.

Is there a decent online calorie calculator or app? Something I can tap X chicken breasts, X rice, X fruit etc and it will give me a calorie count?

Urgh... just done something stupid.

Looked at the height of weightlifters in their respective classes. And guess which class I fit into?

105kg. :(

That's another 10kg of raw mass for me. Up against monsters like Klokov and Akkaev.

Obviously, that's never going to happen, but a bit disheartening (in a bizarre, existential way) because it skews my perception of what weight category I'd fit into if I were to (ever) compete.

Coach reckons - given 18 months - I could lift in the 85kg category. I laughed. He didn't. :D

Could do. But bizarrely, putting on another 10kg sounds like yet another challenge I'd find amusing. Also, I'd be lifting against people who are even shorter (skill+strength doesn't even make the argument at this point. :D )... And I enjoy my food far too much - my calorie surplus isn't exactly what I'd descripe as 'clean' given the amount of pizza, doughnuts, cake and other stuff I eat.

And without 'assistance'? Pffffft...

Practically speaking, I quite like being the size I am, even if I think I'm "not big enough" so more size isn't necessarily a bad thing in my book. :)

So a bit of a hit, morale-wise, but I suppose it's just another challenge.

OHP is always a weakpoint for people. Unless you're Ultra_Extreme.

The rest is neither here nor there: bench could be better, but it could be a question of your technique.

What is your routine for chest? And how much back work do you do (guess what stabilises the chest lifting?)?

Yeah I've only just started using proper bench technique and it has gone up a bit already, but I'm still working on it getting it right. Routine is pretty much just SS.

Bench
Rows
