*** The 2014 Gym Rats Thread ***

Hit 70kg squats today 5x6 not bad considering i was doing like 30kg in sets of 3 for 5-6 reps 4-5 months ago...i am progressing at a steady pace and not ramping weights up fast working on form more than anything with good tension.(also do 30s rests on near all exercises except bench/op/squat/dl i do about 45s)

It's quite sad in my gym how little amount of people train legs....i find them the most fun to train.

Good work! MOAR,

Does it because of the dips? Or is it hurting because you're aggravating something?

Can you do dips on a different piece of kit? Like Olympic Rings or whatever? Can you wrap a towel around the thing from which you are dipping to change the drip?

Did bench dips today and no problem with my hand, so I'll stick to those while whatever is wrong heals. Can also do full ROM on bench dips so probably a good thing anyway, too weak for full ROM on proper dips.

Just finished week 6 of stronglifts, all the exercises are starting to feel heavy now :)

Yeah but you guys probably lifting like 150kg+ on them haha. :p

I am 60kg bench/80kg deadlift(because i haven't done it for long)/70kg squats/45kg OHP (4-8 reps each)

I didn't start doing compounds above properly until 4-5 months ago....i was too focused on cardio to lose fat quick which worked well.

I thought SL/SS was more for beginners building a base. Not really looked into them to be honest.

Since going over 150KG in my deadlift and squat I don't think I'd manage 5 sets of 5. Can't imagine my legs and back having a good time on the 5th set of 200kg deadlifts.
:confused::confused::confused:

Kek, just saw that.

A 5RM of 200kg for 1 set =/= attempting 5x5 with 200kg.

You work within a given rep/set scheme with weights you can control/execute the lifts with good form with for all the reps in all the sets, before trying to progressively overload, whatever stage of lifting you're at. You don't take a weight you can just about grind out one set with then try and do multiple sets with it.

Yep, I know that, I've been lifting for long enough to understand the basics of progressive overload. I do 3 sets of 5 reps on deadlifts at 200kg. I only meant to comment on the fact that 5 sets is quite a bit! Wow.

For future reference, I don't do Strong Lifts or Starting Strength, and have only in the past 2 weeks been focusing on strength training. I've never looked into them and only heard about them on here. But yeah, I'll say no more.

Managed 205kg squats followed by a 210kg - but only have the vid of the 205kg which I will upload as soon as I get it.

Did a dropset of 140kg just for lols. Had more in me dammit

Ha! No I had a few more in the tank rather annoyed I didn't go for 20 :( it's amazing how light and easy 140kg is when you've done a lot more. My TP hasn't sent me my bid yet

I just want to check, seeing as I *thought* I smashed my squats last night, and this video has put a right downer on it, that this man is in fact super human, and I don't have to worry about it?

I take it you prefer a wider stance freefaller or do you mix it up?

If I recall correctly Arnold was a great believer in high rep squatting and leg work.

What's with the confusion? I thought you did 5x5 on deadlifts on SL/SS and would struggle to do 5 sets on 200KG?

I am confused as to why you wouldn't think to reduce the weight to be able to complete 5x5 in order to get the desired training effect.

I still regularly do 5 reps for 5 or 6 sets.
