*** The 2014 Gym Rats Thread ***

He listened but I didn't have the time to spend teaching g him technique as I was busy with my work! I haven't seen him since. Since I'm currently 3rd on the Wilks league table at the gym and the guys at my gym love my form/exercises they give me pretty free reign. :)

Bro they're grooming you ;):p

Conundrum... I've been training with a different squatting variation for the "off season" and it's now looking to overtake my preferred squatting style.
Next Monday the numbers in the plan take me beyond my current max....but as with all linear progression plans there's only so much I can milk the gains.
So do I go for the early PB (and maybe miss...) or do I now cash out with the gains I've earned and delay the peaking by funneling in this new strength into my optimal technique?

Maybe your previous optimal technique is no longer your actual optimal technique...?

As you lift, you will find what works best for you: my stance and torso angle have changed over the past few months and now my technique feels more comfortable and stable than ever.

Why not just carry on and see how the cookie crumbles? You hold the NI record, anyway, so allow yourself dome fun... :o ;) :D

Bodyweight squats today, 70kg 5x5, feels like a good achievement! :D

Getting strong legs, now if I can make them fast too I might win some races. :D

Nice work :) It's nice when you hit BW squats. Now to work towards 2 x BW ;)

lol - did 180kg box squats for the lols, felt great!

As above - I'm guessing 180kg is BW for you too? :p

Need to call upon the form police :)

Can anyone advise - lately I have been loading the weight up on squats, when I start to go heavy I get a lot of pressure on my chest when unracking and composing. Even on the squat itself there is tension there!

Would this suggest I am leaning too far forward?

Yeah, really uncomfortable pain. There is no underlying issues or inflammation on the chest either.

Yeah I brace and form a solid structure - trying to almost bend that bar around me.

Hey guys, need some advice again on moving forward with my training. Just completed the 3 month cycle for ICF 5x5. Stats are below.

Weight: 80.5kg
Height: 167 cm

Squats: 5x5x120kg
Deadlift: 1x5x170kg
Bench: 5x5x70kg
OHP: 3x5x55kg
BOR: 5x5x92.5kg

Happy with the results and the physical appearance with the programme but with the crap load of accessory exercises each workout now takes around 1.5-2 hours. I've been looking at what to do next?

Should I continue with this programme until I stall on squats or move to weekly progression like the Texas method? I was also considering the PPL routine but have been informed by gym brahs that I need to do that 6 days a week? (A template also has me deadlifting 150kg 5x5 on week 1... Surely that's too much?).

Appreciate the responses guys

@Delvis - Because my training has either been SL/531/ICF programs I've never done more than 1x5 on the working weight for deadlifts. I'll give it a go tonight and see how it goes.
@Dreamforger - I used strengthcalc.com to draw up a routine. For the pull day it has me deadlifting 5x5 first, followed by BORs, weighted chin ups and curls.

Stronglifts followed by madcow. What would be a good program to follow after that?
3 days a week would still be good. Also squatting everyday would be good:)

As Delvis has already mentioned, have you stalled?

If not carry on with Madcow (I really, really enjoyed madcow and seen me some great gains), if you have stalled then it depends where you want to go?

Want to carry on making strength gains, or?

I would do something different to strength for a week or two and then either back on madcow or 5/3/1.
