I remember my friend breaking his collarbone years ago and he couldn't move his arm for months let alone lift weights. Wait to see what your physio says :)

Did he have surgery? There's quite a difference between having it and not in terms of recovery.

I'll not be doing anything against physio advice but it's nice to think about what exercise I should be able to do soon (hopefully) :)

I don't think he had surgery so completely ignore what I said :p

Has anyone got any good cues for engaging the lats during a deadlift? It's a bit hit or miss for me. When I can get them engaged, the weight flies up, when I can't it's more of a struggle.

It was built around two squat days... And then whatever else I had on the cards. So yes to bench, back, whatever days. :)

How many days were you working out a week then? It'd be interesting to run this a bit like GSLP, with 2 squat days fixed with alternating bench and deadlifts. Or should I also run the bench on the same day as squats like the standard strength programs?

Yea, unreal. This is above the Eddie Hall 500kg for me. What a year for strength sports!

Same, no suit, drug tested (not implying Eddie Hall isn't) and the largest squat in raw history across all federations, and with what looked like room left in the tank for more! People were still trying to say it wasn't to depth...

Bit of background:

About 1 month ago I broke my collarbone cycling. After about 2.5 weeks I finally had surgery on it (before that it had shortened by 1 inch :/). It's now another 1.5 weeks later and I'm planning out my recovery a bit. I'm back on the turbo trainer as of today and hoping to start with some strength training sometime in earlyish Nov, depending on physio advice.

Plan for the rest of October is pretty much:

* Continue turboing.
* Start light rotator-cuff stuff (pretty much based on mrthingyx's video a while back, worked well previously).
* Maybe look into pistol squats or other one-legged/body weight leg exercises/things to improve hip mobility.

In November:

* Continue turboing.
* Get back to cycling outdoors.
* Start a stronglifts programme (again it depends on what the physio/doctors say).

Does anyone have any suggestions /re the lifting programme for Nov? Or any other general tips for shoulder recovery between now and the end of the year? For the lifting I'm pretty much going back to zero weight for the OHP and BP. I'm guessing I'll need to be very careful with DL and BOR to start with too.

Whatever it is, it should probably involve dumbells so your shoulders can move independently... Barbells are fine, but just be careful. And learn to love bands.

Shoulders back and down and a big chest. I used matched hook grip so can imagine pulling my elbows back...

It was originally designed around a four-day week: two squat days, two "weightlifting" days... But those can be swapped for chest and arms. :D

Probably the best diesel lift I have ever seen. Awesome!

DBs are actually what I normally work with as I have a bench and oly DBs at home. I actually thought a barbell would be better in this case but if it isn't...things become somewhat easier really :)

Imagine you're squeezing oranges in your armpits.

Pulling the shoulders back/down too, like, stand up tall and pretend you're Iron Man taking off with his rocket hands and physically drive your mitts down towards the ground (which will take your shoulders with it) and feel how tense your upper/mid back gets.

Awesome. Well, that saves me feeling that I should go to a proper gym then :)

Aside from the lack of being able to do heavy squats/DLs with just my old DBs of course...

Going to get in before anyone else and say DBSS :D. Get well soon!

I broke my collar bone when I was 15, it took about 6 weeks to heal to just a dull ache, no surgery required then just immobilisation. No relevance to your case but I feel your pain :(

Cool, I'm going to run the "moar gainz mrthingyx dyelb 863" once I finish this smolov jr squat (just did the 6x6 day 1). How much should I increase my calories by if I'm running smolov? I'm on 2400kcal daily and kinda feel hungry.

All of them.

Can confirm, all the calories are needed. Massages, contrast showers, tiger balm, heat gels. Keep in mind that Smolov was written for elite weightlifters that had gym smarties and gains lollipops...

Can confirm Dreamforger's confirmation.

Don't just eat all of them, find some more and eat those too. Also sleep all the sleep and then naps.

Sets of 9 last night then heavy front squat triples have left me with a sense of impending doom for the rest of this week :D

About 5 weeks out from the all Irelands :D

Your Insta feed looked harrowing last night, I was dead just looking at it.
