They sometimes stock the Levis athletic fit one in outlets but there is a reason they're stocked in outlets as they're horrific and look like dad jeans.

I basically get slim jeans with stretch from Uniqlo these days as regardless of what they are I get a crotch blowout withing 6-8 months so it's just not worth paying £££ for top quality denim anymore :/

I gave up with Uniqlo because the last few times I tried on some of their stretchy jeans they either wouldn't get past my quads (and I fit in 511's fine) or if they did they were too tight across the butt - maybe they've altered their cut slightly since then. Their slim chinos are a decent fit though. Go figure...

Right so the girl is looking for recommendation for gym shoes, she does a combination of spinning, lifting (squats & deadlifts), and circuit training consisting of sled work & sprints so looking for an all rounder shoe rather if possible. I've had a quick browse and its looking like a crossfit purpose shoe would be ideal, so any ideas? Only one I can think of it is the Nike Metcon which is advertised heavily everywhere so not sure if they're actually good.

Uniqlo fits are all over the place, even their T-shirts in same style but in different colours fit differently. Quite a frustrating shop to shop in sometimes.

Or reebok nano, they're the other crossfit shoe. As for how good they are, shmeh, I just have a £30 pair of reebok random shoes I got from tk maxx that seem to be OK.

Dare I say could try the good ol' faithful Converses? Essentially you want something with not much cushioning for squats and deadlifts and they are cheap too, might even have a pair lying about already that she could try.

You wouldn't want to be doing circuits in them though I don't imagine they'd be very nice for things like sled work.

I've just started incorporating front squats as part of my routine but should I be putting weight plates under my heels?

I normally wear flat shoes and try to keep the bar on my front delts/chest but find myself tilting forward a bit and it's killing my wrists.

I tried sticking a weight plate under each heel and it felt much more comfortable and easier to keep the bar in place but I don't want to be putting unnecessary stress on my knees if I should just persevere and work on mobility instead.

So, to front squat with plates or front squat with no plates, that is the question?

Very hard rubber so they're not great for running in and they don't have good grip except on clean wood flooring, I think cons would not be great here, although much better for lifting

Loose fit from Next do the job for me, basically upside down boot cut.
Tried a pair of these on today with stretch material but the 38" waist felt too tight around the legs and made my feet look like canoes.

Think I've been spoilt by my Lee Cooper jeans which are actually a loose fit that feel loose without looking baggy.

Bloody youth and their insect legs

The human species is meant to be getting bigger and stronger yet we're producing children that have legs no bigger than their arms. Evolution's taken a wrong turn somewhere.

Man you must have some killer quads going on, thought mine were big!

Been swearing by Next for years now, normally just get their cheapest ones as I do get the inevitable "crotch blowout" after 6 months no matter how expensive the jeans are. 36 Long been serving me for a while now at 6"1 and hovering around 120-125kg/265-275lbs.

I do remember Levi's fitting me well as well when I lived in US, think they were 511 model but I refuse to pay silly price they have on them in UK.

Did consider converses but they're pretty much only good for lifting and thats it, they would be terrible for the circuit work.

Work out a better foot placement for your fronties, and only use "aids" as a stepping stone to proper form/whatever.

Ankle mobility is important, but unless you are a weightlifter is not crucial to front squatting. You need to work out where your feet go to give your hips their optimal room for moving: mine happens to be a reasonable amount past shoulder width, but others may be further or narrower.

This may necessitate some adductor love, too, however...

Also, your knees will only suffer the same way as with back squatting: if you do it badly, it will hurt. Go slow, keep your knees over your toes and keep your chest and back tight... You will find you notice when your lumbar dumps out far more readily.

They're nowhere near as big as they were so I think it's more the fact styles have changed and regular are now tight and loose are now regular.

The bootcut actually felt looser than the loose stretchy jeans when standing up but tighter sitting down so I've ordered a pair of bootcut stretch :)

IMO you only really 'need' Oly shoes/elevated heels for sqwartz if you're
a) squatting reeeeeally deep (as even with great mobility only a tiny minority of people are going to be in a good bottom position with no heel elevation)
b) you're a weightlifter
c) you are cursed with super long femurs

The stability aspect of the shoes isn't exclusive to them and most people should be able to back/front squat to an acceptable depth in flats. Also heel or no heel squats shouldn't be putting any stress on your knees!
